BEAUTIFUL 1968 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK IN ITS ORIGINAL PRESIDENTIAL BLUE COLOR... RARE 1 OF 32...CLASSIC PONY LOOKS WITH SOME SERIOUS GIDDY UP!! IF YOU HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR A HIGH QUALITY, UNMOLESTED '68 FASTBACK AND WOULD LIKE ONE THAT STANDS OUT FROM THE SEA OF RED AND BLACK MUSTANGS, HAS ITS ORIGINAL BODY PANELS, AND LOOKS GOOD ENOUGH TO SHOW BUT HAS SOME EXTRA HORSEPOWER SO IT IS ALSO A BLAST TO DRIVE...THEN THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU!!! DO YOU WANT IT TO SOUND AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS?? ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AN INVESTMENT QUALITY CAR THAT YOU CAN TAKE TO THE SHOWS AND CRUISE-INS AND IS READY TO GO, GO, GO?? YOUR DREAM PONY IS HERE!! This beautiful Presidential Blue 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback was produced on December 4th, 1967 which ironically is exactly 44 years ago as I am writing this listing on December 4th, 2011. The MARTI report say this is 1 of 32, 1968 Mustangs produced with the paint and trim codes it was ordered with. It was delivered to Hover Motors in Denver, Colorado and it is believed to have spent its entire life in the state of Colorado which is where I found it in Colorado Springs. From what I was told this car was restored about 10 years ago and then spent many years in storage before it then re-appeared and was treated to a nicely built, ground pounding motor and fully gone through so it would be ready to handle the road with ease. What I absolutely love about this car is that it appears to be extremely stock and original as you approach it but one turn of the key and she fires up like a race horse and begs to be driven. You gotta hear it so I included a video below so you can! I will do my best to provide you enough pictures, videos and an honest description to help you determine if this Pony should be the one to ad to your stable. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!!! There a lot of pics and 3 videos in the listing so give it some time to load if you have a slower connection...I think you will find it is worth the wait. As the Marti Report and original door tag show this car was born in the color you see it today, Presidential Blue. I was told the car was restored about 10 years ago and from what I can see this must have been a very straight, unmolested car. The body panels all line up great and it appears to be wearing all of its original body panels. I do see evidence that the lower rear quarters had patch panels done which was done very, very nicely. As you will see later on the quarters themselves appear original. The paint quality overall is great and you will see some great reflection in the paint in some of the pics. Sure you will find some very tiny nicks that were touched up over the years but all in all the body looks fantastic. This was a dry, very solid body its whole life and if you have seen a few you will know that this one truly stands out and you will NOT find the bubbling in the paint or cracking from bondo repairs that so many of these have. I believe this car would win its share of trophies at the local shows and cruise ins although it won't win the MCA nationals. The body lines are very straight!! Front and rear glass look great however there are some scratches in the drivers and passenger side windows that may polish out. Windows operate well. Doors open and close great and solid with no sag. The white "C" stripe is a great accent to the body. Deluxe hood with the turn signals recessed looks great and works. Bumpers look new and the rest of the chrome trim looks great with much of the stainless looking original with just minor aging. Enough already, just take a look at the body panel pics below and make sure you view the walk around video at the end of the listing. The interior of this Presidential Blue Pony looks awesome and is a great compliment in its original 2 tone Blue just as it came from the factory. The seats look fantastic and I have to guess they were redone at some time. Door panels, carpeting, dash, rear fold down, and headliner all look great as well. Remote drivers side view mirror. Aftermaket AM/FM neatly installed. Gauges are all working and an aftermarket temperature gauge was added. This car has always run cool but its nice to know! The original steering wheel has a cushion wrap on it and there is some slight wear cracks on the center of the wheel. Turn signals work but the self correction is not working Courtesy lights work and fold down seat looks great. A nice set of matching Pony floor mats adds to the look of this interior. Overall the interior is in fantastic condition and ready for the shows. Take a look: Well, as I mentioned in the beginning this is a gorgeous Pony and has that classic look and stance but one turn of the key and you will know there are more Ponies under the hood of this baby then your average C code Fastback. That's because there is a nicely built 302 with 351 heads, Edelbrock performer intake and 4bbl carb., solid lifters, roller rockers, nice cam, and headers breathing out a set of flowmasters through the dual exhaust. Unfortunately I do not have specific specs on the build but was told, and definitely believe, that there are less then 1000 miles on this motor since it was built. If I had to guess at the horsepower I would put it at about 325-350hp. Enough to have some fun with for sure but not too much that you can't drive this wherever you want to go. I am not sure what gears are in the rear but I have driven tis car at 85 mph on the highway and it is very highway friendly so it can be driven any distance without issue. This Mustang not only handles the road great but also runs cool!! We upgraded the valve covers to a nice set of tall Cobra Valve covers and you could see how clean and fresh the motor was. Now, let me say that I was told this was a 302 block built up with 351 heads. This morning at a cruise in one of my friends who is more of a expert then me pointed out that the motor itself may actually be a 351W as it seems to have the brackets and water pump from a 351. Regardless I can tell you it is one strong, professionally built motor that will set you back in your seat and leave a grin on your face from ear to ear!! This Pony rumbles!!!! The solid lifters give the motor a distinct sound just like a Shelby or K code. The Automatic transmission was also completely rebuilt and there seems to be a slight stall converter. This car shifts great and begs to be driven!! Interesting finding on the MARTI report is that this car was originally a 3-speed manual. You would never know it but if you ever decided you wanted to make it a 4 or 5-speed you would not be hurting anything. Handling is awesome with newer front suspension components, Power steering makes handling a breeze and stopping is easy thanks to the Kelsey Hayes front disc brakes. I pulled in to the local Caffeine and Octaine Cruise In this morning and this baby turned plenty of heads as the lopey cam resonated a beautiful tone out the dual exhaust. This Pony catches attention with its looks and its sound! I think you really need to hear this car running so take a minute and listen to the video below and then later there is a short video of the car on the road. Very clean engine bay as well! Getting down to the nitty gritty....inside of the trunk you will notice a very original car. It appears that they decided not to detail the inside of the trunk area when they repainted the car which will really give you an idea of how solid and original this car is. You will see the original paint and some of the red oxide primer coming through from age. You can also see the stampings on the original quarters in the trunk and see the original seem lines in the door jams. While it is not detailed for show purposes it shows you the great integrity this car has. The floorpans, frame rails and torque boxes are the same way. Not detailed out but rock solid just the way you want them. This Pony has a great stance sitting on a new set of 15x8 Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in BFG Radial TA's that have plenty of tread left.
