Vehicle Detail
Barn find. In storage five years. Not started since, and I have not tried to start it. The motor is not stuck. I am charging the 6 volt battery ( I doubt it will re-incarnate after sitting so long ) and may try to turn it with the starter, but it now turns by hand forcing. This is the original engine, transmission, rear differential, front end, dash steering wheel and the mileage is "actual" (50,143). This would make a great company advertising and utility vehicle. Has a clear Florida title with the correct vehicle ID number that is stamped on the frame-driver's side in engine compartment (I have pictures of stamped number and the title). In my view this is a fairly rust free 72 year old Ford. Any person that knows old cars can relate. Those that see brown colors and a few holes as a destroyed metal object need not view or speculate on this 1940 pre-war relic. There is no rust through or dents in the roof, cowl or much around the windshield. It does have some holes in the fender well splash areas and some repair bondo on the roll under panel below the back doors. The only floor rust holes are in the center between the shifter and the seats. The back doors are "good" and the driver/passenger doors are real good. Needs one rear door glass and passenger door glass. The doors close good. I have more pictures of the door bottoms and inside surfaces if requested. They are good; very little rust. The passenger door and right rear door needs handles. Does have an extra gas tank (see interior seats picture) because the old one is gunked (according to seller). The original color was green. I have some new wide whitewall tire inserts that may work if the buyer gets new blackwalls. I stuck them on the tires and took a picture. Wide whitewalls would be a definite beautifying accessory. Overall, worth the consideration of restoration, hot rodding or just plain drive it without the frills (when brakes and run condition is established). Most were used commercially and when mechanically rundown, left to rust or destroyed for metal and war effort. In fact this probably was used on a farm or factory war parts effort, therefore surviving; then left to sit in a warehouse (the reason for such low rust and mileage). It may be stretching it a bit, bit the original green color may have been military application? If there is a next listing, price will be made firm and higher (especially if I get it running in next few days). On Feb-01-12 at 15:43:10 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATES: original color looks to be yellow; maybe even the fenders. That strikes me as unusual in the 40's. New 6 volt battery purchased today; tried starting with a little gas in carb (gas tank is not hooked up). There is spark to the plugs but I think the battery was only 50% charged but the engine turned. I put Marvel in cylinders and cleaned each plug a bit before the start attempt. I'll put new battery terminal ends on before the next start fun. There are new old style braided spark plug wires. New gaskets can be seen (manifold/heads, etc) so may have been rebuilt five years ago. I flushed all water ports and water pumps are turning. I spotted some more rust on left and right cab floor sides. Clutch is good because I put trans into reverse & forward gears and nudged the starter. It jumped. On Feb-01-12 at 16:11:32 PST, seller added the following information: Additional note: there is no water or milkiness in the oil (indicator of leaking head gasket if there was). I put brake fluid in master cylinder to ooz the brake parts. Don't expect miracles; no leaks seen; no pressure pump up so far. On Feb-01-12 at 19:06:12 PST, seller added the following information: Exhaust system is in good condition; new looking muffler and just surface rust on pipes. On Feb-02-12 at 09:11:05 PST, seller added the following information: Both door windows roll up and down easy.On Feb-02-12 at 16:22:59 PST, seller added the following information: WE HAVE IGNITION! It ran beautiful. Ran it only for 40 seconds until tomorrow when I refill water system with anti-rust additive and antifreeze. I had gravity feed to the fuel pump and carburetor. It idled quietly with no shudders, vibration or strange noises. Just before turning off I kicked the RPM's up and it sounded strong. Once all the system is go, it will be tested moving around driveway (no brakes) and then left to idle, run duration test. The price is getting firmer. I will be calling the guy I bought it from (who never attempted to start) and rub it in. Once the other spare treated tank is installed and brakes are done *(by the NEW owner)*, it will be an advertising utility "driver" quality. Ran it 30 minutes; drained the oil; new oil and new canister filter installed (at NAPA). Ran for another 30 minutes. Did not boil over (Temp. gauge not accurate); smoked a little more when stepped up idle but started dissipating ( I had squirted Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders as zi cleaned spark plugs). I think if the brakes are fixed this could be a diamond in the rough business advertiser and driver. I found some parts on Honest Charlies Speed Shop. Water pumps can be gotten less expensive at NAPA for $60 each (actually one in Jacksonville.).On Feb-04-12 at 19:58:17 PST, seller added the following information: 199 watchersOn Feb-04-12 at 20:13:59 PST, seller added the following information: For the make offer dudes: There is no urgency or need to sell. The sooner "the buyer" goes for it, the sooner it will be at their door and not someone elses. It will also be the sooner start of resto or prep to drive. Some things you can wait on, take your chances, hope for circumstances to work for you. No allowances/ consessions are in the works for any buyer from this seller. No second chance offer will be made, now or in future listings (in fact the price may go up). You negotiate at a car dealership, but not on this Ebay "auction". There is no "make offer" option tacked onto this listing.
