As stated by the Chief Designer of Lotus at the time: The process of building an Esprit is truly a work of art. Unlike other modern factories where cars are manufactured mostly through the aid of automation and robotics; the Esprit is still built completely by hand. This ensures that each vehicle built is truly unique and perfect when it leaves the factory. The Esprit production line was established back in 1976. Nothing has changed much since those days a quarter of a century ago. Currently there are only 21 people on the line. Each car takes about 584 man-hours to assemble. With multiple people working on the car, total assembly is accomplished in about one week. One car is rolled out of the assembly line every business day. Upon completion, each vehicle is driven on the test track. After the test drive, the car is put on a lift and thoroughly inspected and adjusted. Afterwards, the car is test driven a second time to verify everything is perfect. The Lotus Esprit is an iconic design, a classic blend of traditional supercar razor sharp edges combined with design elements that have evolved over three decades. MY EXPERIENCE For the money, this is, without a doubt, one of the most exclusive, and reliable sports cars in the world. In fact, when talking “bang for the buck”, this car is virtually impossible to beat! Not to mention, its value is now increasing since the car has been discontinued. This exotic is an impeccable example of a car destined to be a true collector. Chances are you will NOT find another car like this. The interior and exterior are in excellent condition. The car has never been in any type of accident and all the paint is original and in beautiful condition (the paint color is a RARE factory color. DEEP PURPLE METALLIC.. It looks BLACK until hit by direct sunlight) It took me several years to find this particular car. And, when I did, I paid a premium. Although this has been my first Esprit, it is by far the cleanest and best example of an Esprit that I have ever seen. The car also has an impeccable Carfax and Autocheck score, and I purchased this vehicle with only 5,600 miles on it in 2008.I have owned the car for 3+ years and I am very hesitant about selling this pristine example of automotive excellence. All services have been done by my local Lotus dealer in Hopewell, NJ. The most recent was approx. 3 mos ago and included the timing belt service among other things. GET READY! This car is an EXTREME attention getter. Do not bid on this car if you do not want to be noticed. Over the last 25 years that I have been driving sports cars, I have owned several performance automobiles - many so called "attention getters" and all of these cars were great in their own right. Yet, I have NEVER been in, let alone OWNED, a car that has received so much positive attention from people of all ages. I cannot even leave my neighborhood without someone giving me a thumbs up or stopping me to ask what kind of car it is. In fact, most people who see this car think it is a brand “new” car. When I tell them that it is a 2001, nobody can believe it! Although the car is available for inspection prior to the close of the auction, I also intend to advertise and reserve the right to sell the car locally. Given the overwhelming attention and interest this car has drawn from the local car community, I do not expect it to be on the market for very long. Therefore, I can tell you from my own experience shopping for Esprits (I literally traveled all over the country!) --- if you wait to bid, you may miss the opportunity to own this incredible car!!! Therefore, if you are serious about owning a very fast and spectacular looking Lotus Esprit V8 twin turbo that comes complete with EVERY option and the best upgrades, then you need to place your bid or call me now. FACTORY OPTIONS/UPGRADES, are as follows: Wheels/Tires · OEM Factory OZ Saturn wheels – These wheels are truly a sight to behold. Subtle, yet Powerful looking and light in weight. · Dunlop Sport SP9000- Ultra-high performance rated tires with decent tread all the way around. Very aggressive design for superior wet and dry handling. (245/40-17 front, 285/35-18 rear) Both Removable Tops · Tinted Glass Removable Top · Original matching Deep Purple Metallic Painted Top Factory DEEP PURPLE METALLIC Paint · No words can explain the paint on this car. You have to see it in person. It almost brought tears of joy to my eyes the first time I saw it because it is so beautiful.I have had people standing next to the car and think it is Black…until the lighting changes and then the Deep Purple comes out. Truly an amazing color. · The color seems to magically change in different lighting conditions. I have tried to take pictures in sunny, cloudy and overcast conditions. Lotus Esprit Factory Sport Exhaust · Makes the car sound much more throaty. Subtle yet POWERFUL! Tasteful Upgrades * Kenwood KVT Head Unit w/ 7" retractable screen - Navigation, DVD, CD, Serious Satelite Radio & IPOD connection with interaction through screen * Rearview Backup CAMERA displays on screen *Programmable Bluetooth - can be set to automatically connect to your phone and run everything trough touch screen in car * ESCORT Radar detector - hardwired and built in mute switch * Factory Final Edition Shift knob. Maintenance · A and B services have been performed at or before suggested mileage (professionally done by authorized Lotus Dealership mechanic – have all records since my purchase) · Mobil 1 Synthetic used every time - every 2500 miles. History I am the 2nd owner of this car - the first owner purchased the car in PA and moved to Illinois - then he retired to North Carolina. Each time he needed to re-register - and thus re title the vehicle. The AUTOCHECK report states "CALCULATED" number of owners - not actual Known number of owners. In North Carolina - At roughly 5,500 miles he traded the vehicle in at a Ferrari dealership. The Ferrari dealership wholesaled the vehicle to another dealer and I, in turn, purchased it. When I flew down to North Carolina to pick up the car it had exactly 5534.1 miles on it. I photographed the speedo showing the mileage at pickup. If you look at the the AUTOCHECK history report - it states "no mileage discrepancy" - yet it shows 37,542 miles by an "independent emissions source" (local garage/repair facility) fortunately, the AUTOCHECK computer has an algorithm that scans any mileage variations - and if the numbers work...both before and after the suspect event - it discounts the suspect mileage as an obvious mistake. On 3-14-2006 mileage was recorded at a STATE facility as 3,604, then on 7-20-2007 it was recorded by an "independent facility" as 37,542 - then again at a state facility in 2008 at: 6,534. So if you look at the numbers the ACTUAL mileage 2007 should have been recorded as 3,754.2 - the Lotus speedo shows the decimal point all the time and it is easy for someone to just take a quick glance and mis the decimal point - resulting in the wrong mileage. I ran a CARFAX on this awhile back and it did not come up. I am not sure - but I believe CARFAX only uses state facility records. Rest assured the mileage is correct and original. This car is as close to "showroom" as you can get with 15,xxx miles on it. To the best of my knowledge - No accidents, body or paint work! Why ???? Why do you want a 2001 Lotus Esprit as opposed to older Lotus Esprits? Earlier V8 Esprits had some issues – See info below from the LEW website:(www.LotusEspritWorld.com) V8 Engine Liner Problems A brief explanation to the problems suffered by some V8 owners Anyone who has done a little research into buying a V8 will know about a problem with the early engines that requires a lot of expensive work. Originally if was felt the buying a post '98 V8 was a way of missing this possibly expensive problem, unless the Esprit has had the work done already.After some research into the problem, by LEW and some V8 owners, the fault has been found to be the sealer for the engine liners. Also it has been found that the problem wasn't rectified at the factory until around June 2000. So it is possible for any pre June 2000 Esprit will have this fault arise. What happens is the sealer used to seal the liners in each cylinder, to stop water that cools the engine mixing with oil that lubricates the engine, can fail if the engine overheats. This results in water leaking into the cylinders and ending up in the sump. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WHY GAMBLE? You might save a few dollars with an OLDER Esprit V8 – but as they say…”Cheap is expensive in the long run!” That 1999 or 2000might look great, have impeccable records and cost less BUT Avoid potential catastrophic and expensive engine issues by buying a 2001 or newer! Do your own research - 2001 - up Esprits are the way to go! This car is relatively inexpensive to insure as well!I have full coverage on this car, live in New Jersey andhave an agreed upon insurance value of $55,000.00 with High PointInsurance and it costs me aroud $650 a year! PLEASE NOTE - Numerous people have asked if there is ANYTHING at all wrong with the car. If I had to pick anything - there are 2 issues. #1 There is a little wear on the drivers seat side bolster from me sliding my butt into the drivers seat. Easily and inexpensively repairable with leather touchup/reconditioner. #2 The painted center caps on the factory OZ wheels are starting to fade. Other than that... nothing I can think of. Believe me.... this car still looks, performs, smells and feels like NEW!
