For sale: my cherished Orange/Black 1973 Volvo P1800 ES (Estate Wagon Sport) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_P1800#1800ES Rare final model year and body/interior color combination. A show-ready example of this car/year/trim will easily fetch > $20K. Foreign bidders are welcome. I can assist you in shipping the car to Europe. A bona fide survivor with the factory Volvo paint: sex appeal overload. I have a clear title and registration. Garaged and located in sunny Orlando, Florida. I have many documents reaching back into the early 70's as well as many recent bills and receipts; including a receipt from IPD from earlier this month. I have proof that this car recently passed emissions inspection in California. I changed the oil, flushed the coolant system and replaced the thermostat this week, although it needed neither. Read on...Major featuresRarest of rare factory Orange paintClean, original Black interiorOriginal Volvo glass all aroundSmoke free.. just has that awesome Old car smell :)Seats are clean yet show some cracking from use. Headliner is very nice. There is a very tiny tear in it, towards the rear which does not detract. Door panel covers are clean - AMAZINGCarpet is original and very cleanChrome is nice, clean and shiny, bumpers clean no dents but there are fine scratches. Remember that it's 39 years old. The dash has a couple of cracks in the usual spots. All gauges work properly, including the clock and the dash light except for the Oil temp. Easy to fix?4 speed transmission with overdrive shifts smooth. Note: Overdrive light stays lit. Ummm .. check out this P1800 with .. over 3 MILLION miles: http://www.worldbreakingrecord.com/2010/07/worlds-highest-mileage-car-2010-volvo.html This motor is highly over-engineered and can clearly run nearly forever with routine maintenance. Why does 'Original Paint' matter? Well, most of the cars you see on Ebay of this vintage or older have minor and major rust and paint oxidation issues. A high end paint job can easily run $10K or more, but to REPAIR a crummy paint job and subsequently correct and seal out all corrosion and paint issues can be easily double that. This car has dings here and there, and it has been touched up with factory Orange paint. So yes, it's original paint over 95% of the car. Note: A 2' area over the passenger-side front fender has been touched up at some point but it just adds a bit of character. The paint and body have expected road-use defects. All the seams are straight and tight, no evidence of even minor collision. The paint has been polished and is really only good from ~10'. To make this car a an award-winning show car, you will need a relatively inexpensive paint job (done right) and very little else. All original body shows no sign of any collision. the silver trim has door dings. Front passenger headlight area has touched up rock dent. Rust: I'd like to say that this car has ZERO rust as some disreputable sellers may, but my car does have a bit in a few places. The worst and really only spot of any concern is the front-right(passenger) side jackpoint. The jackpoint itself is fine, but where it connects to the other boxed-steel member is rotted out ON THE BOTTOM and sides, not the roof(floor of cabin). It must be replaced. The rust appears to be isolated to JUST the jackpoint. This jackpoint is widely available at places such as: http://www.p1800.com/body.html . I will reduce the final selling price by $50 to cover this part. As far as I can see or tell, my Volvo has very minor surface rust all other places, nothing bad, nothing which could not be easily repaired when this car gets a proper paint job. The rear hatch seal water trough is lightly rusty but 39 years in a garage have saved it from most of the elements. However, it also needs your attention. I dry it out manually it any water touches the car. So please understand, the paint and body is still 39 years old and has some warts from surviving all these years as a driver, but nothing like an outside car with rotten rockers and fender-wells which require massive body resto. This could be done by ANY shop without too much toil. The shifter is loose. It shifts fine and is easy to drive, but there is something loose in the shifter itself which needs your attention at some point. The sealt belt light/buzzer is shorted on the passenger belt. The overdrive light stays on. The windshield wiper system needs attention. The drive's door spring to hold the door open (tiny little spring) is broken so the door closes itself. That's about it for problems. My Car is blast to drive and starts on first turn of key. Why am I selling it if it's so great? Well, I have owned 4 Volvos since I was 16. My first was a 77 242, then a 87 240 and now a 73 ES and a 75 TGB11. I also have 2 early Porsche 911's. '70 an '69. I have 7 motorcycles including 2 project bikes. I just need to let some projects go. This car has the most potential to sell at my asking price: gets the most looks that's for sure. Absolute head-snapper on the open road. People are blown away for real. People ask to sit in it nearly every drive out. So this car is the one I can part with which will likely sell to another owner who will love it as I have. Reserve the right to end auction at any time,as the car is for sale locally as well. On Jan-02-12 at 12:38:05 PST, seller added the following information: A quick word about my feedback: I had 100% positive feedback dating from Feb 1997. In the last few months, I sold a K9 muzzle to a bidder. My father and I are law enforcement. We used to provide K9 and Schutzhund supplies to law enforcement agencies. When he retired I was charged with liquidating our remaining inventory. I sold three muzzles, the last to a new ebayer. The muzle could not be found. I tore my garage and my dad's garage apart to find this blasted thing. When it could not be found, I fully refunded the buyer and apologized in THREE days. This bidder gave me a single negative feedback for a full refund !! So nearly 15 years at 100% turned into 98.9% I even asked the bidder if I could send some free items in ADDITION to the full refund. No dice. Try to see me as a 100%er if you can :)
