Up for auction is my 1982 VW Rabbit Pickup or "Caddy," as they are also called. This is an LX model and was made here in the USA! The rig has the desirable 1.6L diesel and a rare 5-speed transmission(makes cruising above 55 much nicer) These little front wheel drive trucks are known to get between 40-45 mpg and are perfect candidates for veggie or waste oil conversions! They also are capable haulers with a 2000lb payload. These trucks are becoming harder and harder to find and have achieved a cult-like following amongst VW enthusiasts. I purchased this Caddy about a month ago with the intention of doing a complete restoration, however after re-assessing I just don't have the time to take on such a project right now. The truck runs great and shifts smooth. I have no problem firing it up even on cold Oregon mornings. In typical VW fashion the odometer stopped working at 121,xxx miles. I "do not know" how many miles are on the motor or drivetrain. The motor is tight and does not leak oil or smoke at all when running. (You do get a little puff of white smoke right after you fire her up but that's it!) Mechanically the rig runs and drives great. The majority of the work is cosmetic and bodywork. Overall the body is in fairly straight. Take a close look at the pictures and see for yourself. I have done my best to point out all of the rigs faults from what I have found. I have also included a youtube link of a brief video I made this morning showing you the engine bay/body panels/floor pans/rust/etc. The video also shows a "cold start" and a brief drive so you can bid with confidence; knowing that this is a great runner. Good -Very strong running 1.6L diesel w/5speed Unknown mileage/stopped working at 121,xxx mi (no leaks or smoke!) -New windshield and gasket -New heater blower motor -Dash is free or cracks, new black paint, new cluster bulbs throughout -New wiper blades (rain-x latitude) -No rust strut towers/engine bay!(Common Problem) -Tailgate and rear taillights in-tact and functional!!!(Often stolen) -New Sylvania silverstar headlights -OEM Westmoreland bumpers still on -13 inch OEM aluminum wheels -Fires up easily even when cold!!! -Clean title Work Needed -Passenger floor pan has rust-through (see pictures and video) I will include a brand new Klokkerholm pan for direct replacement -Rust-through on bed-rails, covered with primer but will need body filler. -Rust on back of cab above slider window (small holes) (see pictures) -Dent behind rear wheel (drivers side) will be easy to pull (see pictures/video) -Driver's side seat needs new cover/torn/complete with duct tape from previous owner! -Carpet has been taken out to expose floor pans/needs new carpet kit (around $129) after you get the new pan put in. -Odometer stopped working at 121xxx. -Glow plug light on dash not lighting up. -Fuel gauge not working currently. -No radio in place/have old one that came with rig, not installed. -Needs headliner I also have a set of rare 14 inch Pirelli P-slot wheels mounted on like new Federal Formoza tires that I will sell to the winning buyer for an additional cost.
