Vehicle Detail

1965CHEVROLET IMPALA SSNO RESERVEUp for auction is an original unmolested 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS. 1965 Chevrolet ImpalaChevrolet's full sized Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne received all new styling for 1965. Chevy's new big car was both elegant and sporty by design. All GM full sized cars switched from the 50's-style X-member frames to the so-called "full-perimeter" frame, which provided superior structural strength and better supported the large new bodies providing a more quiet and comfortable ride. Engine choices remained wide with up to 10 options including the ever famous "409". Among the top of the model production remained the Impala SS with a base price of just over $2,800 for the hardtop coupe. At mid-year 1965, Chevy decided to try the "luxury Impala" idea and added a $200 Caprice option for the Super Sport Sedan which included a more luxurious interior, special trim and a more heavy-duty frame. Chevrolet had done it again and sold more cars than ever before with more than 2.4 million cars sold making 1965 the best yet of the decade, and the 1965 Chevrolet Impala set an all-time industry sales record of more than a million units. This car is as true as it gets. Pictured is the car with the original SS hubcaps, and also with American Racing Torque Thrust polished wheels. The car is equip as followed:283 cu" V82 speed power glide automatic transmissionSS PackageFactory SS bucket seats with consoleFactory SS hubcapsFactory shop manualFactory owners manualoriginal sales brochure16" AMERICAN RACING TORQUE THRUST WHEELSThe car was recovered from a barn in the middle of Illinois, and the owner installed a new gas tank, fuel pump, and shocks. This car runs and drives like a new one. With this being said, it is in its original state, so it does have surface rust popping up on the top of the body. The underside is clean of any rust, with exception to 1 spot in front of the fuel tank, about the size of a dime. It is dirty and needs the underside detailed. The motor and transmission appear to be original to the car, I will verify numbers if you are interested. This car is a true survivor, but is in need of a sand, and repaint. It appears there has been previous bodywork under the rear of the front fenders, as if someone jacked the car up in the wrong spot, this is very old bodywork, and very minor pitting on the very edge of the mudflap area of the rear quarter panels. The interior is in extra nice shape with only 1 rip in the up and down panel of the side of the drivers seat, from years of constant up and down. All courtesy lights, and guages, including the vacuum gauge are in working order. The headliner looks new. all door panels are in good shape. Take a look at the pictures, and call us up and schedule a test drive. You will be impressed with the way this old car drives. BID WITH CONFIDENCE, THIS IS A NICE OLD CAR! BELOW IS A BREAKDOWN OF THE VIN #. From 1965 to 1967 the serial number identification plate was attached to the left front body hinge pillar directly below the upper door hinge. From 1968 to 1971 it was attached to the top of the instrument panel on the driver's side and is visible through the windshield from outside the car. 1st digit - Division - 1 = Chevrolet 2nd & 3rd digits - Series - 53 = Biscayne L6 54 = Biscayne V8 55 = Bel Air L6 56 = Bel Air V8 63 = Impala L6 64 = Impala V8 65 = Impala SS L6 (1965) 66 = Impala SS V8 (1965) 66 = Caprice V8 (1966-71) 67 = Impala SS L6 (1966-67) 68 = Impala SS V8 (1966-67) 4th & 5th digits - Body style - 11 = 2-door sedan 35 = 4-door station wagon, 2-seat (1965-68 models) 36 = 4-door station wagon, 2-seat (1969-71 models) 37 = 2-door Sport Coupe (1965-66 Impala & SS) 37 = 2-door coupe (1969-70 Impala) 39 = 4-door Sport Sedan ) 45 = 4-door station wagon, 3-seat (1965-68 models) 46 = 4-door station wagon, 3-seat (1969-71 models) 47= 2-door coupe (1966-71 Caprice, 1968-71 Impala Custom) 57 = 2-door coupe (1971 Impala) 67 = 2-door convertible 69 = 4-door sedan 87 = 2-door Sport Coupe (fastback) (1967-68 Impala & SS) 6th digit - Model year - 5 = 1965 6 = 1966 7 = 1967 8 = 1968 9 = 1969 0 = 1970 1 = 19717th digit - Assembly plant - A = Atlanta, GA B = Baltimore, MD C = Southgate, CA F = Flint, MI G = Framingham, MA J = Janesville, WI K = Kansas City, MO L = Los Angeles, CA N = Norwood, OH P = Pontiac, MI R = Arlington, TX S = St. Louis, MO T = Tarrytown, NY U = Lordstown, OH W = Willow Run, MI Y = Wilmington, DE Z = Fremont, CA 1 = Oshawa, ON Canada 2 = St. Therese, QB Canada Last 6 digits - Production sequence starting at 100001 at all plants. The vin number for the car you are bidding on is: 166375S247190, and it breaks down like this: 1=Chevrolet division, 66=Impala SS V8, 37 = 2-door Sport Coupe (1965-66 Impala & SS), 5=last digit of the model year, S=assembly plant of St Louis MO, 247190= the production number.
