Vehicle Detail

Just pulled out of the shed where it has sat for 25 years. This car was purchased on August 24,1982 from a VW dealer in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Then, my father and I set out to transform it into the kind of "Cal Look" hot rod that we saw in the pages of Hot VWs magazine. Over the next several months the UPS truck brought eight-spoke aluminum wheels, a new steering wheel, Hurst shifter, an adjustable front suspension, baby tornado mirrors and Cal Look window rubber. Then we bought a used Type IV engine and pulled it completely apart and rebuilt it with a counter-balanced crank, dual 40mm Dellorto carburetors and a mild cam. Displacement was increased to 1911cc and the flywheel was lightened by half. From an import salvage yard we bought Porsche seats and Porsche gauges. The seats, and the rest of the interior, were customized by Billy Scott Interiors in Louisville. Dad made the custom nerf bar bumpers and painted the car India Red. It was fast and beautiful in its day. In 1986 the transmission broke and I pulled the engine to replace it. I replaced the transmission but never put the engine back. I bought a Honda and a shed was built around the Ghia at my parents' house. Now my parents are in a nursing home and the house, shed and car are being sold. You should know that the car is VERY rusty. Time has not been very kind to my beloved Ghia. It comes with an intact VW Type I engine and the Type IV engine that was in the car and running strong when I parked it. The Type IV long block is intact but the carburetors and tins were removed. They will be included with the car though.
