THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION!! NO RESERVE NO RESERVE NO RESERVE NO RESERVE NO RESERVE NO RESERVE! PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO VIEW 100 PICTURES OF THE CAR Up for auction is a beautiful example of a 1968 Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3. This is the earliest 300SEL 6.3 in the country. It was the second 6.3 that was delivered to the United States. The first car delivered, chassis #000006, was taken out of the country and placed in a museum in Europe. This fine example, chassis #000010, was the second 300SEL 6.3 delivered to the United States. It was ordered new with 040G Black Paint and Parchment Leather by Made Right Sausage Company. Being an early car it has the sought after 9:1 HIGH COMPRESSION motor. It comes with a large file full of service records and has been well taken care of over the years. Engine: The motor in this car was has been well maintained and runs like a top. The car idles perfectly and is quite strong. This car can be driven anywhere anytime. Serious buyers please feel free to test drive it! Transmission: The tranny in this car is great and has never given me any issues. It shifts crisply and the kick-down solenoid is working as it should. It does have a slight amount of leakdown, but that seems to be a common issue amongst the 6.3 tranny. Paint: The car has been re-painted sometime in the last 15 years and can be best described as average. While the car does polish up and shine nicely. There are little chips and scratches around the car. There are quite a few little rock chips up front between the grill and headlights and the trunk lid has some very fine scratching over a large portion of it. From 3 feet away the car looks great, but if you stand right up next to it and really get your eyes next to it you can see lots of little issues. Suspension: The suspension on this car is extremely tight and there are no odd noises. The air suspension on this car is also perfect, it does not drop at all. I have left this car for 3 months at one point and it did not budge. The rear differential was gone through and every single rubber part in the rear suspension was replaced. It handles wonderfully and rides properly. Leather: When I bought the car it had a w108 interior in it. I took original Roser leather from some of my parts cars and re-dyed (Leatherique Products) it to the correct factory color, Parchment. The drivers seat does have some tears and the passenger seat does have one. Otherwise, the leather looks fantastic. The combination of 040G Paint and Parchment leather is outstanding. Carpets: The carpets in the car are brand new and have just been been completely re-done. The charcoal carpeting makes the leather really pop. Wood: The woodwork (Macassar Ebony) was restored at some point in the last 15 years and they did an average job. The door wood is all in quite nice shape as is the dash fascia wood. But the dash bow's finish is beginning to lift slightly on the ends. Overall the wood looks very nice, but to the trained eye and the originality freak, it is not up to par. Because the car is an extremely early version, it has the wood up the sides and around the top of the windshield. it makes the car look far better in my opinion. Chrome: The chrome on this car is very nice. The front and rear bumpers are both FRESHLY re-chromed and have just been installed. The bumper joints were not done. The grill shell chrome is the only true sore-thumb. It is beginning to fade and has a cloudy look to it. The anodized aluminum trim around all the windows it quite nice and has only slight cloudiness to it. The door sill chrome is in amazingly good shape and has very little scratching so that had to have been restored at some point. Flaws: The windows motors are weak and have given me headaches. The drivers window motor is the best of all of them, but periodically will not operate. It is currently not operating. The right rear window motor is currently having issues and will require assistance to make it all the way back up if placed all the way done. The right front window and rear left window motor are simply weak. The radio is not hooked up currently. The steering wheel has small cracking in it. Tiny amounts of surface rust in the engine bay area. Otherwise this car is completely solid. There is a small 1/2 inch diameter hole in the rear part of the headliner. There is also a small crack in the dash pad between the speaker grill and the instrument cluster (typical spot).Serious buyers are welcome to come and test drive the car. I prefer that potential buyers see the car in person. I do my best to describe cars accurately, but nothing substitutes actually inspecting a car in person. Please feel free to email me your questions and we can also speak by phone for more in depth discussions.
