Vehicle Detail

With the 1975 CB400F, Honda nailed the bull's-eye. The 400 simply looked perfect, with just the right, understated amount of chrome, monochrome paint in blue or red, no stripes or unnecessary adornments. The tapering, bread loaf-shape tank, the flat bar and slightly rearset pegs gave the requisite sporty riding position--and there sat that tiny four-cylinder engine, a totem for acolytes of Honda's Grand Prix excesses in the '60s. Here's what the magazines had to say about it: "Obviously, we're dazzled by the first major manufacturer's 4-into-1 exhaust concept. It's light, maneuverable and quiet. This is the coming of a new kind of motorcycle--fast, silent and fun."--Motorcyclist, April 1975 "Honda has carefully tailored the 400 into a true mid-displacement sporting motorcycle."--Cycle World, July 1976 "The Honda CB400F is a marvel: It handles remarkably well, stops with authority, snaps through the gears precisely--and motors along smartly. The bike feels all of a piece, as if a hundred separate design systems fell into perfect synchronization. Yet the attraction of the 400 transcends its obvious competence. Even a card-carrying Anglophile would agree that the CB400F has real character. If you can't respond to the CB400F's electrifying mechanical presence, you should immediately switch your sport to checkers."--Cycle, March 1975This 1975 Honda CB400F on offer is truly remarkable, in that it is a 100% original, unrestored, example of an extremely well cared for collectors motorcycle. Showing just 9,564 miles from new, this well presented jewel rides as good as it looks. Serviced properly from new, most recently a full range service with new front brake pads, along new caliper seals and a master cylinder rebuild has just been completed. The bike performed flawlessly this year in a 125 mile tour as the lead bike during the "Quail Motorcycle Gathering Ride" through the California back roads of the Monterey Peninsula. It is difficult to comprehend that this is a 36 year old unrestored motorcycle (please take a close look at the photo's). The original paint is like new, with gloss and depth usually found in fresh paint. The chrome is amazing, especially the exhaust pipes which have zero fade or dings. The factory seat only shows the slightest and expected wear on the cross strap, but again, slightest wear. Two points of flaws, which are slight, but need to be pointed out, include some very faint hazing in the instrument glass, and a very small ding with a corresponding 1/4 inch touched up scratch in the gas tank (see photo's). My temptation over the years has been to fix these two concerns, but because they are so very minor, I have chosen to leave the bike in it's original shape, and not alter the factory paint, etc. They are both easy fixes, should you choose to do so. The bike starts instantly, no smoke ever, and runs and shifts through the gears with perfection, and stops like a dream. Complete with it's original tool kit, and manual, this is a great opportunity to buy a fully usable, collector quality, good investment motorcycle that hasn't been sitting unused in a collection or museum. Have some fun, and be a part of the great Honda ad campaign "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"! Questions are welcome, please feel free to contact me (Gordon) on: 831-372-9311, or email. If you have been looking for an excuse to come to the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, this is your perfect reason, don't let this one slip away........!!!! Good luck bidding!!!! On Nov-03-11 at 10:37:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Thought I would add a photo of the original tool kit, along with the owners manual, key, and a copy of the shop book, which or course are all included in the sale. Also, it was brought to my attention by a known Honda expert, that the exhaust muffler on this bike is a factory style replacement for the OEM original. It is a very high quality, virtually indistinguishably different than stock unit, but it does lack the original HM377 part number on it. This was obviously replaced prior to my ownership 3 years ago, as I would have mentioned it in my original description. And lastly, although the Dunlop tires currently on the bike have plenty of life left to them, I am including a set of new tires with the bike as well, for future use. With the 300 original mile other Honda CB400F on EBay approaching the $20,000 marker (world record price), this amazing Honda could be the best deal on EBay, as the reserve is set at a mere fraction of that number. Good luck bidding, you will not be disappointed with this bike!!
