1981 Porsche 911 Renegade Cabriolet 964 with Chevy V8 And now for something completely different. Is that a Chevy V-8 in that Porsche 911? Not for the purist but certainly for someone who likes to own something that's "just a bit different." (Hopefully the good people at the PCA (Porsche Club of America) will not revoke my membership.)This "FrankenPorsche" started out as a 1981 911 Targa and was then converted to a 964 Cabriolet clone and had a Chevy V-8 engine installed. The car was built in 2003 at 21,000 miles. This was a PROFESSIONAL CUSTOM BUILD by Renegade Hybrids of Las Vegas, NV. For those of you who are unaware, Renegade Hybrids Porsche conversions have been featured in Excellence Magazine several times... they are the UNDISPUTED LEADER in this type of conversion and although their work may not be cheap, it is UNQUESTIONABLY THE BEST. The VIN # is WP0EA0913BS160959 and mileage is 31,500 miles +/-.According to the ower:"This Porsche is the fastest and most fun to drive than any of my other Porsches, and I've had 4, including a 930 Turbo. The turbo has considerable turbo boost lag while this vehicle has immediate low rev torque. This vehicle is simply a pleasure to drive."If you've ever driven one of these older Porsches, you know that 180 HP may have been fine back then, but by today's standards, it feels anemic. This vehicle on the other hand is NOW a TRUE AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR - THAT JUST HAPPENS TO LOOK LIKE A PORSCHE C2. This vehicle is faster, more reliable and more fun to drive.Renegade Hybrids charged $26,000 for this conversion, and it's worth every penny. DETAILS: EXTERIOR: Good quality Porsche red paint from 2-3 years ago with high gloss. There are a few paint chips. Weather stripping in excellent condition. All glass in excellent condition. No rust (galvanized steel body).INTERIOR: Good condition. No tears or cracks in dash or doors. Leather seats have usual wear but are covered with custom color matching seat covers. New carpet kit installed. Underside of convertible top in excellent shape. CONVERTIBLE TOP: Push a button and the top goes up or down and the latches lock/unlock electronically. Material in great condition except for two small holes that have been professionally repaired. ENGINE: 350 cubic inch with Edelbrock 650 carb., RPM Performer aluminum heads, custom made Renegade Hybrids headers. Estimated 350 horsepower (maybe more). For those of you who are 'Car Guys', this engine can be built up as the transmission can handle about 500 hp! Runs smooth at low RPM’s and very docile in traffic but has the horsepower when you want it.TRANSMISSION: Porsche 915 (the standard SC transmission from the 911) SHIFTS PERFECTLY! WHEELS: New ZR Rated Michelin Pilot tires (less than 2,000 miles) on 17 inch rims with 205's in the front and 255's in the back. Beautiful rims with big SC disc brakes.STEREO: Alpine sound system COOLING: This car has never overheated. Custom cooling system designed and installed by Renegade.FUEL SYSTEM: New Renegade gas tank with all accessories installed by Renegade.HEAT/AC: Great after market heater puts out plenty of heat. The system was refurbished including having the entire air condition unit installed with brand new parts. BLOWS ICE COLD!. Additionally, the A/C is the newer system and not the older one that uses freon gas.Aside for the fact that this car is as fast as it looks, the main advantage is NO MORE INSANE PORSCHE REPAIR BILLS. If a problem arises, you can find the parts at the auto store- NOT THE PORSCHE DEALER! Remember, it's now powered by a small block Chevy motor!
