Vehicle Detail

This truck is being sold at NO RESERVE with an opening bid of only $16,000. What does the above statement mean?? "OPTIONS.” Answer: I have two different engines and three different sets of wheels/tires: · The engine currently installed is a 468 cubic inch big block. The other engine is the original numbers matching 396 big block. · Wheels and tires: 15” ralley wheels/tires, 15” custom chrome wheels/tires, 17” Billet Specialties polished aluminum wheels/tires. · If you are the high bidder on the truck as presented, you can modify your purchase. This is explained at the end of the truck’s description. I am the third owner of this RPOZ25 SS-396 El Camino from California. It is definitely not a clone! Power front disc brakes, power steering, and special insignias were standard on all '69 Super Sports. According to the original Protect-O-Plate, the truck was delivered to Neil McKillop of San Gabriel California on October 10, 1969. Dealer: Jack Head Chevrolet of Alhambra California. It was then sold to George Baresich of Riverside California. I bought it from Mr. Baresich in March 1988 and transported it to N.J. WHY DO I WANT TO SELL IT? Answer: I’m 66 years young but am realizing I’m not going to live forever and I have other projects I want to try and finish. Plus, dwindling funds and a lack of space are another important factor. Do I really want to sell it? Not really; if you read all the information on my website you’ll know it’s like a part of my family. But unless I win the lottery or a rich unknown distant relative dies, something has to go (If I do hit the big one, I will build a new garage and offer to buy it back!) Since bringing this truck from California to N.J. in 1988… · Removed the original stock 396 engine and replaced it with a pro-built 454 big block. It has been bored .030, new pistons, rods, etc., mild street cam, Edelbrock aluminum manifold, 700 cfm Holley carburetor. Displacement is now 468 cubic inches, approx. 400 HP. This engine now has approx. 68K miles on it. · While the engine and trans were out, the turbo-400 automatic was inspected and serviced by Fatsco Transmissions Inc. Fairfield N.J. · Installed B&M Megashifter floor linkage · Rebuilt the front suspension, including new springs, shocks, brake hoses, stabilizer bushings. Front pads and rotors plus rear drums and shoes were in excellent condition so no replacement of these items was necessary. · The original Cortez Silver paint was removed (not painted over) and painted Lemans Blue using epoxy primer, base coat, clear coat. Reason for repaint: to match the color of my first El Camino (see info below). · Replaced bench seat with bucket seats, new carpet, new vinyl top (same reason). · 15 x 7 front and 15 x 8 rear Corvette ralley wheels with BFG radials. · AM/FM radio w/ cassette player · 3 point seat belts/shoulder harnesses · Aluminized Flowmaster exhaust · Original 12 bolt 3.50 open rear · Original factory A/C system with new aftermarket compressor (2009) works great · Custom power operated recessed bed cover (even a 3-wheel electric scooter fits). It is operated by a switch inside the truck, which makes it totally secure. FYI: water will find its way in around the edges so I put luggage etc. inside a plastic tub "just in case." · California (brand) car cover Yes, the photo of the 2010 Turkey Run sticker is the real deal. This car is a driver… including the round trip to Daytona Speedway last November, several shows in Vermont, many in PA, NY, and NJ, plus local events. Also… I have the original “numbers matching” 396 cubic inch engine plus the “Protect-O-Plate” that documents the authenticity of the truck. · Engine information: The original 396 / 350 hp big block engine has been disassembled, the block has been boiled and magnafluxed, heads have been redone with new valves installed. Also have new cast iron crank, new connecting rods, stock intake, stock California emissions-legal Q-jet carb, exhaust manifold, distributor, all gaskets, ARP head bolts. Needs cam and lifters, pistons, timing gears and chain, oil pump, fuel pump, etc. Engine has been painted and mock assembled… see photos. Partial Background Info: When I purchased this truck, I was looking for one to replace the El Camino that I sold in 1973. I special ordered that truck in July of 1968, which was before pictures and literature describing the 1969 models were even available to the public. It was a LeMans Blue SS396 with a L78, 375 HP, 4 bolt mains, solid lifters, M22 4 speed, and 4.11 positraction. It arrived at the dealer in time to be displayed in the showroom for “opening night” of the 1969 model presentations. (More info plus a photo of the first El Camino is on website) WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU BID: 1. Photos shown here and on the website show the truck with various combinations of wheels/tires. Most photos show it with 15” ralley wheels with Camaro center caps. This summer I bought Corvette center caps and put them on. Then last month I bought new 17” Billet Specialties polished aluminum wheels and Michelin tires for my ’56 Chevy that I am refurbishing, but since it is far from finished, I decided to put them on the El Camino. 2. What you are bidding on: You are bidding on the truck with the 468 engine and the 15” ralley wheels (with both sets of center caps). If you win the bid, you can purchase the following if you want (they are not included in the final bid price, they are not included in the final bid price, they are not included in the final bid price, they are not…..) Please make sure you understand this when bidding. 3. Original numbers matching 396 engine as described above: $2,000 4. Brand new Billet Specialties wheels and Michelin tires: 17” x 7” front with 50 series tires, 17” x 8” rear with 55 series “run-flat” tires: $2,500. 5. Custom chrome wheels and tires: 15” x 7” front with BFG tires, 15” x8” rear with Hoosier tires: $500. 6. If you buy the truck and want to supply your own wheels and tires, subtract $500 (Be sure to bring them with you when you pick it up). 7. I strongly encourage you to inspect this truck before you bid, but that is your choice. If you want ebay or another third party to inspect it for you that's OK with me. Is the truck perfect and flawless? No… I drive it! And if you are afraid of every little mark that may get on it because you drive it, then this truck is not for you. I’ve done some minor touch-ups since I bought it and I have a list of everything I’ve done to this truck from the day I bought it in 1988 including refurbishing, modifications, and maintenance. This list can be emailed to you so you know exactly what was done and when. Is it a 100 point vehicle: no. But is it a 90 pointer? I think yes. If you are serious, call me and I will honestly describe the truck, along with any questions you have. It has won 1st and 2nd place trophies at many large shows. The 468 engine has about 68,000 miles on it since it was installed. It now burns about one quart of oil every 500 miles. The best mileage I got was 12 mpg last year when I drove it to the Daytona Turkey Run. Average mileage is about 8 – 10. Do I guarantee nothing will break or go wrong after I sell it? I can’t do that; all I can say is I try my best to keep it in good condition. It is sold as is/where is. 8. A $2,000 deposit is needed within 48 hours if using PayPal. Check or money order within one week is OK but you must contact me ASAP to make arrangements. Balance must be paid in person via cash or certified bank check before title is released. 9. There are many additional photos and more info on the website. Be sure to go there, then contact me via eBay or info below to arrange inspection or ask questions. If, after going to the website, you want more photos, I can email some close-ups or details of anything you want. If you are seriously looking for a true SS-396 El Camino, this just might be the one for you. Items that a purist might want to address: (see photos on webpage)1. The trim around the driver's and passenger's side windows could use a good polishing. The same goes for the grill bar that goes across the middle of the grill. Also, the chrome plating on the original plastic "SS 396" logo in the center of the grill bar is showing signs of pitting.2. There is a separation in the weatherstripping at the top of the passenger door.3. The chrome on the newly installed bed corners is not the quality that I expected. Up close, they are beginning to show signs of tarnishing.4. There is a paint blemish on the front right corner of the hood. Most of the time it is not noticeable, but if you want, that section could be masked off at the stripe and re-shot. I have some paint left over plus all paint code info.5. Up close, the door handles are showing very slight signs of pitting.6. As of recently, most of the time the AM/FM radio will not "hold" a station after the truck is turned off.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thanks for looking.
