Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a beautiful, red 1966 Porsche 912 with 109692 miles on it. The car had been stored since 1991 and just came out of storage. It was last registered in NC in 1991. The Vin # is 454719 This is an excellent Porsche like the photos show, a nice driver. Please check out the photos in all details. The outside is very representable! The interior is quite nice! We changed the oil, disassembled the carburetors, cleaned them out and the car started right up and runs very smoothly. The car does not smoke at all and responds great to the gas, the engine sounds very healthy. We used a little brake reservoir as a fuel source as the gas tank is filled with smelly gasoline from 1991. We will drain the gas tank and dispose of the old gasoline before the car is picked up. We just put new bushings into the pedal cluster and clutch and brakes work well, even the rotors have rusty surfaces from sitting. All calipers work and release properly and they look like they had been rebuilt not too many miles ago, as all rubber seals/ dust caps look good and as the calipers were not seized after the long storage. The emergency brake works as well. The car drives and shifts nicely into all gears (4-speed plus reverse). All tires have a lot of tread! The car looks fantastic but has a few small rust areas/ bubbles as the photos show. The car has had some sheet metal and plates riveted into the floor, and plates bolted into the trunk ahead of the gas tank and underneath the front to reinforce the front suspension. This car can be used as an excellent driver or restored to its original beauty. To make this car right one would need to replace the gas tank/ front suspension support “U” piece, put in a new floor, and handle the smaller rust bubbles as shown in some of the photos. The car comes with a clear and clean PA title; it was just changed over into our name last week – we did it properly and paid the sales tax. The car is sold “AS IS” with no Warranties implied. Even the car runs, we recommend towing it home or having it transported, which is the full responsibility of the buyer. We are a repair shop and restoration business and do not have dealer plates, we can therefore not offer extended test drives to the buyer, only around our building on private property to test basic functionality of the car. We can deliver the car to Erie for $50, the general Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland area for $195, to Rochester for $225. Good luck bidding! A deposit of $750 paid by Paypal is due within 48 hours of auction close. You are welcome to come inspect the vehicle, please make arrangements with us, call Karl at Thoroughbred Motorsports LLC at 814 664-3656. Also feel free to request additional or higher resolution photos. We are closed from Friday Oct 28th to Fri Nov 4th, so the vehicle cannot be picked up during that period. Please contact us for pick-up arrangements. On Oct-15-11 at 09:47:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had many questions regarding details of the car. The outside is very representable: The car has been re-sprayed at one point in what I believe is the original color, if you look at the close-up photos you can see there is paint on some rubber edges. The tag on the door says: "MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY, KARMANN KAROSSERIE, NR: 454 719 KUNSTHARZLACK 6602", which is polo red. The car looks just fantastic from a few feet (a couple of meters) away, but on close-up inspection under neon lights you will find lots of small imperfections in the paint such as some cracking in the paint on the hood and some “micro-pimpling” or multiple “micro-bumps” in the paint in several places. Also rust bubbles exist as I am showing in some of the detail photos. Overall, an excellent looking car considering it is 45 years old and has been stores for 20 years. We thoroughly washed the car and polished and waxed it after picking it up from its long storage. The interior is quite nice: There is a small tear in the outer bolster on the driver’s side a few inches long. It only becomes apparent when you push on it; in its rest position it is closed. The other seats are free of tears, the original 4 rubber mats are over black carpet that is in nice shape. The dash is very decent, as are the door panels and the rest of the interior. The engine number is: *1280299*On Oct-23-11 at 04:19:10 PDT, seller added the following information: We have drained the old gasoline from 1991 out of the gas tank and replaced the gas tank. The gas drained from the car it was a little rusty. Upon removing the sending unit and inspecting the tank closely we decided to treat the car to another gas tank. We had a gas tank on the shelves from a very low mileage 71 911 that we parted out years ago, and that tank is in very nice condition, very clean inside, a lot nicer than the one in the 912. The tanks from the 66 912 and a 71 911 are almost the same and we decided to put the 911 gas-tank into the car and it is all done. We also replaced the old, short rubber line that goes from the tank above the steering rack to the line entering the tunnel with a new one and new clamps so that is all done. The car is now drivable with fresh gasoline out of its tank.
