Vehicle Detail

Offered here is one of the more attractive and extremely usable examples of a Mercedes 123 chassis model 300 Turbo Diesel 4 door sedan. It is a well maintained car that had an older restoration and it remains a nice Mercedes blue with tan interior (the back seat is lighter). This car has little rust and is extremely straight and solid. No significant dents and the only area of concern are some areas where the clear coat needs to be redone on the roof. The car was purchased from the last owner in excellent condition and was followed up with a number of mechanical and operational improvements. Among these were- New Michelin tires- Update brakes- New fuel and oil filters- Water and fuel hoses where needed- Refinish all the alloy wheels Recent full service (oil change and etc.) This car has had a lot of work done to make it look nice and even though the paint is a few years old (and could use buffing in spots) it still looks sharp and is a very usable fun or work vehicle. This is far from a show car and this would make a great daily driver. DETAILS- Mileage- 209,030 original miles Color- Mercedes Blue Metallic. Engine- 3.0 liter five cylinder fuel injected diesel 109 horsepower Transmission- four speed automatic Brakes- Dual circuit four wheel disc power assisted w/pad wear indicator. Suspension- Independent front and rear w/coil springs, diagonal swing axle, anti-roll control bar and hydraulic load leveling for the rear. . Other features- MB Tex vinyl interior with front bucket seats, Air Conditioning, Power steering, power windows, electric antennae, NEW AM/FM Stereo Radio with CD Player and MP3 Hook up (Panasonic 200w per channel), real Zebrano wood trim, dual headlights with amber driving lights, chrome plated aluminum bumpers w. rubber strips, like new Mercedes alloy 14” wheels and new performance rated radial tires, new heavy duty battery. Recent hoses, brakes and service work. Condition- BODY- Excellent body and paint recently did (2007). Some small spots of surface rust down low below the door line. One or two very small dents. Very good paint job with the exception of some flaking in the clear coat on the hood (see photos), very straight body, and excellent shine and (as you can see) car could use buffing on the roof, otherwise a very nice looking finish! . TRIM- All chrome trim and side moldings in good to excellent condition, decent grill insert (missing Mercedes Hood Badge), nice headlight doors, excellent Mercedes grill symbol, nice front and rear bumpers (rear bumper is the best we have ever seen) and rubber moldings, excellent mirrors and windshield and rear window trim. Many trim pieces replaced or reconditioned in 2007 partial restoration. INTERIOR- Overall excellent condition- A few light cracks in the dash, no tears in the headliner or door panels, rear seat excellent with mild discoloration, passengers seat very good with some mild discoloration. Rear seat is a lighter color and came from another car. Wood trim on dash is very good, with the exception of one strip which has no finish. Center console wood is good. Excellent interior chrome and all switches and gauges are solid and crisp. All the carpets are in fair to very good condition. Shampooing the carpets would make them look even better. TRUNK AREA- The inside of the trunk is reasonably clean and usable. Pictures not taken at the time of the listing but we can provide some on request. No problems or concerns otherwise. ENGINE COMPARTMENT- Unusually clean (especially for a diesel) with no oil deposits, battery spray or discoloration. Engine and wiring are very clean and well maintained. (see pics). This is a very smooth running engine with a minimum of oil leakage (all diesels leak some as most of you already know). This engine has always been carefully maintained and it looks it and sounds like it. This car is unusual because most 300-D’s of this vintage are really worn out. This car even with 209K on it drives great and looks great. The suspension is tight, the steering solid, the engine is smooth and has great torque and acceleration and it has no problem keeping up at highway speeds. This car runs like a car with 90k on it and is incredibly economical. It’s amazingly fun to drive and has great brakes, cool AC and nice heat. The transmission shifts as it should and the car is easy to drive and handles like a four door sports car! If you need a car for going to work or daily transportation, this unusual blue 123 car will do the job. It’s safe (one of the safest cars ever built) and will last a long time (5 cylinder Mercedes diesels go 500k or better when properly maintained….I know, I had one with 493,000 miles on it in operational condition). You will not be disappointed in the way it looks and drives. The car is kept under a cover and in a heated garage in Rockville, Md. Come look at it and drives it if you’re close enough. It’s worth the trip! NOT A SHOW CAR …THIS ONE IS MEANT TO BE DRIVEN AND USED!! According to the owner, this car averages 31 mpg or more on the highway and 25 in the city. Its top speed is well over 90 mph and it cruises very comfortably at 70 mph. If you are close to Bethesda, Md. (and the D.C. area in general) then we encourage you to come see the car in person. As we said before, It is currently located in an inside parking garage under a cover and driven only a few times a week. This is a 30 year old car this year and in most states it will qualify for very inexpensive antique or vintage vehicle tags. Insurance for this car (according to the current owner) is less than $120.00 per year (from Hagerty) and we estimate under current fuel prices that it costs about 14 cents a mile to operate. This is also (obviously) a prime candidate for bio-diesel conversion and information about this is available on the internet everywhere. Good luck with your bidding and we are confident that you will not be disappointed with the condition or the mechanical soundness of this classic Mercedes 300-D.
