Vehicle Detail
Classic Mercedes Ponton diesel. Runs and drives just great! New tires, brakes and shocks. Starts right up, and drives well. Longest trip I've done in it was from Portland, OR to Seattle, WA and the car ran flawlessly, easily keeping up with traffic. The engine feels very strong, and has a good punch. Transmission shifts very smoothly up or down, and is quiet. Brakes work very well. This car is a real people's magnet! It has been repainted from it's original brown color, and the paint is getting tired. There's some bubbling at the bottom of the doors, but the rest of the car is very solid, and would be a great candidate for restoration. The interior is presentable, but the driver's door panel is missing. Speedometer, odometer and oil pressure gauge are working fine. Gas gauge is erratic, and the other gauges do not work. Drivers door glass has been replaced with plexiglass, originals aren't difficult or expensive to replace. Chrome is generally in decent to good condition, but a few smaller items could use replating. Title is clear. Here's a video of the car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7WybaI_qTI&feature=feedf This was going to be a great project for me, but I desided to concentrate on a fintail Mercedes instead. Living in the city with only a 1 car garage has it's limitations. This Ponton has a coolest factory option: a tow hitch. One must see how it's bolted to the frame! Very neat. This was a private import from Germany, gauges are metric! The car's odometer shows 23k kilometers (not miles), + the 200K badge on the grille, which translates to 223k km, or roughly 140k miles. This is nothing for a diesel! I hope this car finds a deserving home! On Oct-05-11 at 07:12:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Transmission is manual, 4-speed, column shifter. On Oct-06-11 at 12:13:32 PDT, seller added the following information: I have now located and purchased the missing bits, including a stock driver's door glass, door panel, fender mirror, etc. All come with the car !On Oct-08-11 at 06:40:19 PDT, seller added the following information: To those of you thinking of driving this car across the country. Please understand that this is a 50 year old car (anniversary!), and it needs to be fully sorted out before embarking on a long journey with some degree of confidence. I am fairly new to Mercedes diesel, and cannot guarantee such a trip. I've done my share of cross country trips in old cars, but it was always a familiar marque to me, Fiat or Lancia. If you are an old Mercedes gear head, you may consider driving the car home. Otherwise, please figure shipping costs into the purchase price before bidding. It just wouldn't feel right to me handing you the keys knowing you are driving this car home for more than a few hours. Lets keep this a happy auction all the way through. Thank you!
