Vehicle Detail
For sale is my much loved personal 1800 ES. This faithful car has been extensively rebuilt and reconditioned over the last few years but space and some new projects require letting my loss be someones gain. Details of the work are below but this is not a project car. This car is ready to climb into and enjoy. You may find a few small details to fettle as with any classic car, but you can also just get in and drive this reliable, beautiful jewel, for years to come with in all likelihood nothing but regular oil changes and maintenance.Bring your mechanic, bring your magnet, bring your Swedish friend who worked for Volvo! This is a Great one, not one of the clunkers out there. Starting with the mechanical: Documented work in just the last two years in excess of $5500.00 at a specialist near my home to completely overhaul the brakes and rebuild the calipers, replace lines and hoses etc. All new exchaust system' rebuilt rear differential (now quiet like new) and new clutch with fresh cable and resurfaced flywheel. The gearbox seals were replaced and the wonderful overdrive gearboz shifts like new, and is silent in operation. It flicks in and out of overdrive and is delightful to use. I have no paperwork on any rebuild from the p.o. but I must believe it was done or these are just as good as they say they are. Its perfect. Complete;lly rebuilt front end all bushings, control arms, tie rods, etc. This recent work compliments what was done five years earlier, to the engine (but less than 10,000 miles ago) which was a complete rebuild of the B20 including new pistons, valves, unleaded head conversion and all cambearings, cam follwers, etc. etc. The engine is STRONG and wont need to be touched for another 100,000 miles! At the time, it was decided to convert to a B18 style SU Carb set up (see photos) for total reliability. These bullet proof carbs are choke operated and an absolute delight. I have received tons of compliments on the conversion and seen lots of people abandon costly Weber carb set ups and go to good old SUs. All parts were obtained through IPD Volvo specialists. The cooling system was completely rebuilt with a rebuilt radiator, new overflow bottle and water pump. The car runs super cool set up dead stock. There are five new Pirelli P6 tires on refinished powder coated wheels, and the slightly lower profile 15's are the recommended size for better handling. Three years ago the usual spots for corrosion were repaired professionally and to a very high standard. There is no observable corrosion anywhere on the body and should anyone wish additional pictures I will be happy to provide them. The rockers are all new and done correctly with the original seams showing, and the patch panels for the front and rear fenders were fitted correctly prior to a very high quality repaint. The car has a few small imperfections as it is driven, and one slight hairline crack in the paint just under the tailgate but virtually undetectable. Easy fiz fif desired and some of the original paint used is included. The bumpers are all originl and there is a small perfpration in the cross bar license holder bar of the front bumper. These are obtainable both new or used but it barely shows. All the rubber around the external trim is very good to excellent. The underhood sound padding from IPD was also installed. Panel fit is very good and the body shows beautifully. The interior: In 2009 the fabulous leather seats were completely redone in genuine leather by Sports and Classics in Darien CT. This was a little more than Don Thibault but the result is every bit as good or better. Then Don provided new door to body seals and a red carpet kit and a cloth cover for the dash. There is some cracking under the cover but I like the cloth rather than the dash caps which also look quite nice and are cheap enough if you go that way then use the cloth one to protect the cap! A really first rate Sony CD MP3 system is fitted and some nicely done speakers in the back seat area (done professionally and to a high standard) and about a month ago a new hideaway radio antennae as I got sloppy with the car cover. The car is not just pretty, but its solid and feels almost inspirational to drive. I simply can't imagine any significant expense occuring to the car for the new owner. I have replaced the speedo cable and the angle drive, but I still get some jumpiness from the speedo so the new owner should plan on eventually having the speedo head rebuilt. All other guges work correctly except oil temp, which hasn't been researched as its a non issue here in So. Cal. The clock will also need to rebuilt if desired but the radio has its own so I didn't bother. I recently replaced the tailgate latch and it works well with good struts holding it up. Original jack also included. This is a very pretty ES but its not a show car. It is however, I think, mechanically a superior example and should prove trouble free for the new owner. I have set a very low reserve considering recent expenditures; this isnt some car thats been all used up or has been sitting around and now is being sold. This one has had the cash spent on it so that the new owner wont need to. Please ask any and all questions and also see my feedback. I love cars. They are my hobby not my business and I will work hard to make sure the buyer of this car is happy. I can help with shipping to anywhere, or I would love to drive it to you within 500 miles or will meet you at the local airport so you can drive it home. It will be ready to go for you. LOW RESERVE considering recent sales so bid to win it and be confident it is a good one that is realistically priced to sell. This is the one you have waited for so don't miss it.
