BEAUTIFUL CANDY APPLE RED 1968 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE READY FOR SOME TOP DOWN FUN!! OLDER RESTORATION, LOW MILEAGE GREAT DRIVER QUALITY CLASSIC PONY!! Well Classic Mustang Fans here is a great looking Pony that not only looks great, runs great, and sounds awesome but is also priced very fairly for a quick sale. Over the last 10 years I have bought and sold quite a few Classic Mustangs and along the way made some great friends in this great car hobby. I am listing this Classic Pony Convertible for a good friend I met that shared the passion for these Classic Mustangs with me. He is from Missouri and has had his share of Mustangs as well. Over the last 6 years I have actually sold several of them for him but ordinarily he will sell them on his own. I got a frantic call from him a few weeks ago telling me that his wife just got a job in Oregon and they sold their house and she was headed out there right away and he was going to follow a weeks later. Then, he seemed to lose vision in one eye and was in the hospital being treated. He had purchased this sweet '68 Convertible right before all this happened and he asked me if I would help him out and market this one since he had his hands full and would be going to Oregon for a while to help his wife settle in. A day later I had the Mustang transported from Missouri to me in Alpharetta, GA. When the transporter arrived he fired up this Red Pony and it had a healthy soft rumble from the dual exhaust. A quick drive around the block and then I dropped it off at my detail guy to get a good buff on the older paint. As you will see this Red Pony has plenty of shine and as I will describe below is a great driver quality Classic Mustang that should make its next owner very happy. I will do my best to honestly describe the condition of this car and provide enough pictures to allow you to decide if this is the right one for your stable. There is also a video at the end so you can hear how great it sounds. Sit back, relax and enjoy! Although this Mustang did not start its life Red a restoration done approximately 20 years ago converted it to a beautiful Candy Apple Red color and I do not see any evidence of the original color which according to the door trim tag was Tahoe Turqoise. According to the gentleman my friend purchased this car from in Kansas this car lived a pretty sheltered life in the Kansas area most, if not all its life. The District Sales Office on the trim tag is Kansas which would support this information. The previous owner bought it about 15 years ago and stored it in his garage working on it slowly over the years. Overall I would describe the condition of the body as a very nice driver quality condition. As you can see from the pics this car has tons of eye appeal but it is not without its minor cosmetic flaws consistent with a driver quality car. The body appears to be free of rust and the older paint has held up well overall and the color came up great with the professional buff and wax I just had done to it. It appears that the car had rear quarter panel skins professionally done at the time of restoration.Overall the body panels are nice and straight. There is a slight gap at the lower side of the drivers side door where it meets the rear quarter panel. This might be able to be adjust for a tighter fit and it really does not detract from the overall great look of this Pony. There is a discoloration in the paint on the trunk that I do not think shows up in the pictures. It is about 8 inches in length and just looks like something was either spilled or stuck to the paint at one time and left a mark. My detailer was not sure if it could come out with heavier wet sanding but it could easily be repainted if desired but it is certainly not necessary. As you can probably tell already I believe in disclosing the obvious flaws I see as I walk around the car since I know not everything shows up in pictures. This is perhaps why my buyers are always so pleased with the cars they buy from me. I noticed a few very small bubbles at the lower front corner of the passengers door. They are not soft or braking the paint. There are a few other tiny flaws here and there that have been touched up. There is a small 2 inch crack in the paint on the hood and down low on the rear quarter panels there are tiny rock chips. This '68 has the deluxe style hood with the turn signals set in it and they do work! As I said, this is a great example of a Classic Mustang that you can be proud to show up at the local shows and cruise ins and perhaps more importantly have a blast driving top down in this beautiful weather. The black Convertible top is brand new! It is a power top and the power top motor works smoothly and the top locks down nice and snug to the header however the pin is missing on the drivers side and it could use a slight adjustment to line up perfectly. The front and rear bumpers are new and most of the chrome trim looks excellent. There is a small spot on the chrome around the convertible top that has a slight blem but overall looks very good. The Exterior decor group includes the rocker panel and wheel well chrome trim. Very nice, correct black "C" stripe compliments the black top and interior. You will get tons of thumb up when you drive this red beauty so leave plenty of time to talk to all of the people who want to know all about your sweet classic. Here is a walk around photo tour of the body: The black standard interior is also in excellent condition. The previous owner told my friend that he put new seat covers on the car about 5 years ago and they look great. Seat belts in both front and rear. Dash pad looks like it may have been replaced as well and has no cracks. Door panels are in good shape and you may notice that there is a speaker grill along the bottom of the drivers side door but not on the passenger side. I do have a matching speaker grill that can be installed on the passenger side by the next owner if desired. You may also notice in the pic of the drivers side door panel the weatherstripping was loose and will be attached properly for the new owner. There are no rust issues along the bottom sides of the doors. The original steering wheel is in very nice shape overall with a few small separations typical on these Mustang steering wheels. Carpet appears like it could be original although it is in great shape with just slight fading. The gauge bezel is clear and all the gauges appear to be working except the oil pressure gauge which is not working however this motor is getting great oil pressure and an aftermarket gauge could be added if desired. The glass all looks very good and appears to be original carlite glass except the windshield which has a very tiny rock chip on the lower drivers side corner that does not effect vision at all. The drivers side rear window crank mechanism is not currently working . I am including a new window regulator that will fix this easily. The problem is just the piece where the handle attaches which is broken off so you can not crank the window up by hand. Once the new regulator is installed it will work perfectly. Brand new black boot cover for when the convertible top is down is included as well. Overall the interior looks very nice with no rips or tears and sets off the Candy Apple Red paint beautifully...a truly iconic color combination on this piece of American Automobile History. Here is a look at the interior: This C-code '68 Convertible has just 94,050 miles on the very strong running, original 289 V8. The previous owner maintained the car very well and the way the car runs it seems like it has had some work done to the top end of the motor as it is very strong. Automatic C-4 Transmission shifts smoothly and the Power Steering makes maneuvering a breeze. The cars tracks straight and handles nicely. It may need some new front end bushings soon but handles the road very nicely as is. The manual drum brakes were completely service in January, 2011 and I have a receipt for this work. At the same time the carburetor was rebuilt and fluids were replaced. The exhaust from the manifolds back is close to new and sounds great!! I included a video at the end of the description so you can hear how great this Pony rumbles. My friend drove this car home from Kansas 300 miles on a hot sunny day and had no issues with overheating and no issues at all for that matter. This Pony is very road worthy and is a joy to drive. My friend did treat this Pony to new shoes with a brand new set of 15" Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in brand new BFG radial TA tires, 235/60/15 in back and 215/60/15 in front giving this ride a great stance and great feel on the road. The undercarriage is rock solid and it is possible some of the floorpans may have been replaced at the tie of restoration 15+ years ago although they are original looking and are all very solid with no soft spots or rust issues. As you will see the undercarriage is not detailed and shows the road grime and minor surface corrosion you would expect for its age. The trunk is also very solid with no rust issues but is not detailed although it does have the correct plaid mat.
