THIS CAR IS OFFERED FOR SALE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER WITH NO RESERVE. PLEASE DON’T WRECK MY AUCTION BY BIDDING IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO BUY Please allow time for the photos to load. Feel free to phone or e-mail if you need more information, my contact info is at the bottom. Thank you. Offered for sale with no reserve is this rare and beautiful 1936 Ford Deluxe Phaeton in fine condition. It is from the estate of a longtime friend and car collector here in Oakland, CA who passed away some years ago, and I have been asked to sell it by his family. The car is all stock with the exception of a rare early Edelbrock intake manifold, and is identical to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1936 Ford phaeton currently on display at the FDR Presidential Library in Hyde Park, New York. It is in beautiful condition and the high bidder will have the opportunity to obtain an exceptional car at a bargain price. HISTORY: The current owner tells the story of his dad and the ‘36 Ford: “My father told me many times that his favorite car was a ’36 Ford Phaeton. He was born in 1925, so about the time that he became aware of cars, at age 12 or so, the 36 Ford would have been a rather new car. He liked the grille, the hood and most of all the convertible open air of the ‘36 Phaeton. He graduated from University High School in Oakland a semester early (Winter of 1944) and as most young men during WWII he immediately went into the army. During his time serving in France, he thought about the car that he would purchase when the war ended. He of course wanted to buy a ’36 Ford Phaeton. In ’46 when he returned home to Oakland, CA, he could not find a nice Phaeton and instead purchased a new 1946 Ford. Those returning GIs had been able to save money while in the war and were eager to get some new wheels. My father bought and sold many classic cars through the years including numerous Studebakers, Mustangs, and T-birds, but the car of his dreams was always the ‘36 Phaeton. He finally got his dream car in 1994 when he bought this Phaeton from a longtime Ford collector friend. We have maintained the car in his memory since his passing, but in recent years have found less and less time to enjoy the Phaeton. We hope it can go to somebody who will love it as much as Dad did.” CONDITION: This Phaeton is in beautiful condition, a solid, low mileage car restored to a high standard in the 1980s. The paint has a few minimal scratches and will benefit from polishing, but looks great just as it is. The chrome is excellent, and the upholstery is genuine leather in the correct original pattern. The top is like new and can be put up and down by one person. Mechanically the Ford is in top shape. It starts right up, idles smoothly, and never overheats. The car is all stock except for the intake manifold - at some point an Edelbrock “Regular” dual carb manifold was installed. I think this is a rare setup from the early days of Edelbrock as I haven’t been able to find another like it pictured anywhere on the internet. If you are a purist the original manifold with carburetor and air cleaner also come with the car. (see photo) Shifting, steering and brakes are tight and responsive. All of the lights are in working condition. The original gauges are supplemented by modern oil pressure and temperature gauges, as shown. This car is also equipped with the super rare original Ford radio controls - the radio itself is missing but shouldn’t be hard to find for the new owner, if desired. The odometer shows 66,000 miles which may be original although we don’t have supporting documentation. DRIVING THE CAR: This car is a joy to drive as it is light and maneuverable and has plenty of power from the dual carbureted V8. The feel of the wind in your face takes the driver and passengers back to a simpler time in the early days of motoring. Anywhere this car goes it attracts a crowd and many smiling faces. It has never been used extensively since its restoration, and in recent years has been driven only a few times a year. It is now ready to be enjoyed, driven and loved by a lucky new caretaker. VALUE: Although 1936 was the best sales year for Ford in the 30s, the 1936 Deluxe Phaeton is exceedingly rare. Only 5500 were built making it one of the lowest production Ford models of the decade. The majority of these rare models have of course long since gone to the junkyard and of the small number of survivors most have been modified or chopped into hot rods. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine all steel unmodified example. If we consigned to a big classic dealer or sold the car at one of the big auctions the price would undoubtedly climb extremely high, but the owner wishes to sell right away so the car is offered with no reserve for quick sale. This is surely an opportunity to get a bargain on a remarkable car and a rare piece of automotive history. If properly cared for this car is sure to increase in value in the near future, making it a blue chip investment which can be enjoyed while it appreciates. Bid what it’s worth to you and you can own it. If you can’t bear to wait for the end of the auction you can contact me with a “buy it now” offer, and I will give it serious consideration. Contact me through eBay, or by e-mail at jc@piedmontpiano.com, or by phone at 510-325-7490. SHIPPING: US: I am confident the car could be driven anywhere but if you need to ship it look in your local yellow pages or on the internet under auto transporting to get a price quote. I can make shipping arrangements if necessary. I can hold the car for a reasonable period of time but payment in full is required as indicated below. SHIPPING: OVERSEAS: I believe it costs 2000 to 3000 USD to ship from here to Europe, Asia, or Australia, but please do your own research to determine the exact price. I will be happy to help with paperwork and local delivery to a shipping terminal, but the buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and please note payment MUST be made as per the schedule outlined below. REGISTRATION: Please note this car is currently registered in the State of California and has modern CA license plates. (not shown) The 1936 plate in the photos does NOT come with the car but if you wish to obtain 1936 plates (allowed for use in most states) I can help you find some at a reasonable cost - many are also available on eBay.
