Vehicle Detail
Thanks for viewing my ad, I have for sale my 1969 Porsche 912, it's sand beige with a mix of tan/black interior pieces. I pulled this Porsche from a barn in central Indiana in the spring of 2010. It had been sitting under a tarp in the corner of a dry barn for approx 15 years. The car was sold new in Denver Colorado and then spent the rest of it's life in New Mexico (documents to support) it was never registered or driven in the midwest until I bought it. The used car lot paper key tag it had on it when I bought it said "ugly mustard yellow Porsche"....I had to save it. The story told to the last owner was that the engine had been "recently rebuilt" and then mounted in the car. It had been apart, cleaned and the re-assembled by a non-Porsche builder. It had no exhaust system on it when I bought it and was missing alot of cooling tin. I pulled it down to the crankshaft and found that the engine had been re-assembled with a flat cam lobe for the intake valves on cylinders #1 & #3 and the lifters for that cam lobe were badly pitted. I replaced the cam, the two bad lifters and re-assembled the engine with new rod bearings, piston rings and all new seals. The crank bearings measured fine and the crank had been gound .025 and the crank bearings were new. I went on a six month scavenger hunt and found all the missing cooling tin pieces and the engine now runs strong. On cold start up it has a lean "spit" up through the #2 intake but smooths out when warm. It has Dellorto DRLA36 carbs and a Bursch header/muffler system. The engine # is 4096250. I've rebuilt the front brake calipers, replaced shifter bushings and fixed several odds and ends to make it driveable. I generally just tool around town in it but have taken on 150+ mile road trips and it's done well..I am in the process of converting the interior to black from the original orangish/brown color. The back seats and rear shelf panel are in great shape, the carpet is in good shape. It has a beautiful wood rimmed steering wheel that I have about 10 hours in restoring. All the glass is in good condition with the exception of the windshield, it has two chips and one scrape from a worn out wiper blade. The dash top is in poor condition. I performed one amatuer floor repair, the passenger side rear floor had section cut out by the previous owner (I think with a plasma cutter/neat edges). I pop riveted in a metal piece so that I could drive the car. It needs a proper rear floor section to be correct but is driveable with my repair. It is a five gauge/five speed car with the desireable Fuchs wheels. The brakes, clutch, transmission and engine all work well, this is a real plus for this car as the "not running" 912 projects for sale could have thousands of hidden dollars in just the drivetrain. I've enjoyed taking this car from a lifeless hulk to a running driving project, This car can be driven while it's restored but the next level this car deserves is outside my budget. Proper paint, rear floor pan repair and windshield seals will make this a perfect car...Pleae ask any and as many questions as you would like. I will be happy to assist with the shipping/delivery of the car i.e. I will pick up buyers at Toledo express airport or Detroit International or at our Toeldo Amtrak station. I will assist in shipping otherwise at buyers expense.
