Vehicle Detail

Don’t miss this chance to own this wonderful Dove Grey California based 1967 Porsche 911 with a rebuilt Weber powered 2.7 liter Valhalla engine (Valhalla Automotive, Lafayette CA) and a fresh 901 assembled by Wurth (Don’s Autowerks, Campbell, CA). This is a three owner California car which has never experienced an accident. It even boasts, what I have been told, original paint (original unmodified body) and less than 97,000 original miles and comes with a stack of receipts ($26,000 worth) from the second and third owners and this doesn’t account for the additional $14k (missing receipts) spent on an additional engine and other components from the second owner. Don’t try and build a sleeper like this from scratch unless you want to spend well over $40k building one (not to mention the cost of the car itself) plus you’ll have to do some body and paint work bringing you towards $55k (or more) very quickly. Get this turnkey original beauty for your garage instead. This car doesn't need anything but a new owner and driver to enjoy it, read on.... This car started life as a 912 purchased new from Carlsen Porsche in Palo Alto California. It ran on the streets of Northern California first as a daily driver then turned into more of a weekend car for the better part of 15 years when it was parked in the garage due to age and health issues of the original owner. After he passed away his daughter kept the car (covered) in the garage for many years when she finally decided to sell it in 2001 to the second owner who kept it for almost 6 years and during that time he transformed this car into the 911 that it is. The owner sent the car to Patrick Motorsport in Phoenix Arizona and had a new 911 engine cross member installed along with a 2.0 liter 911 engine, suspension was beefed up with new Sanders torsion bars and Koni shocks spending well over $6k in the process. Wheels were upgraded to 15X6 Fuchs. It was a solid running 911, but the owner wanted a little more power. In 2006 he had Valhalla build a 2.7 liter Weber powered engine and had this professionally installed at a cost of over $8k. I bought the car from the second owner 4 years ago and proceeded to turn it into a dual purpose street/track car and will describe all of the modifications made while going through the entire car. The intent was to create a sleeper on the track; retain the original lines of the narrow bodied short wheel base 911 while being able to handle and accelerate with the modern cars. With every early 911, the body and chassis are the most important parts of the car and you would be hard pressed to find a better example that hasn’t gone through a full restoration. I removed the original front bumper (in excellent shape and will come with the car) and retrofitted a RS fiberglass front bumper (specifically made for the early 911) with a perfect paint match to accommodate a Mocal front oil cooler. This front oil cooler works in tandem with a fender mounted Turbotrol oil cooler backed with a Spal lightweight electric fan fed through 1983 factory oil lines and thermostat, the 911 never goes past 210 F even on the hottest summer track days. The Dove Grey paint on the car is in very good shape without cracks or thinning anywhere. Dove Grey is a unique color that still looks great today. The 2007 GT3 issued a similar non-metallic grey/green color which was very popular and onlookers always comment on how great the paint looks on this early car. It’s really been a garage queen all its life and has been stored covered in California garages for the past 25 years. When I purchased the car I noticed that it had some checking on the right rear quarter and this was due to poor preparation prior to a single re-spray of only that quarter panel due to a parking lot scratch during the first ownership. I recently stripped that quarter and found no Bondo and no damaged metal. I had Custom Paint Finish in Santa Clara California perfectly match the paint and had it sprayed original single stage. The match is amazing. Due to the slope of the hood, this is the only panel that has suffered a few rock nicks and scratches. Note that the fenders have not been modified with the flairs keeping to the earliest 911/912 lines. The chassis is in wonderful shape. This is not some Midwest rust bucket; longitudinals, floors, front pan are all straight, original and rust free. The underside has no built up undercoating to hide flaws, it’s as it was from the showroom. All corners are original and you can clearly see that it has not been in any accidents. Rust has always been the enemy of these non-zinc coated chassis’ and repairs can cost thousands to fix and what are you left with ….a repaired chassis with patches…..not the case here. The only evidence of rust is a small one inch line just forward of the right deco strip on the front fender which was there when the second owner purchased the car and hasn’t changed in the past 15 years. Then again, we didn’t typically drive this car in the rain. There is no chassis rust. Chrome on the car is another high point with beautiful chrome door window frames, quarter windows, latches, bumper guards all free from rust or pitting….these are gleaming. People always comment on these as they are very unusual. Interior is in fine shape for a 44 year old car. The headliner has one small tear from the original owner but has kept up very well for its age. Dash and package tray are in excellent shape without cracks or fade. Gauges are the original green numbered S-trim series with clock, oil pressure and temp gauges. Only the clock is non-operational. Factory am/fm radio and single dash speaker is still present. Door panels and handles are all original and are in very good shape. Front glass and seal have been replaced once (with German glass and factory seal) but all other glass is original, no cracks or rock damage. Rear seats are original and previous owner installed a four point AutoPower rollbar for safety. Front seats have been replaced with ProCar seats and these are very comfortable. Driver’s seat has been replaced with a Recaro SPG with a proper slider mechanism and inflatable lumbar support. New owner will receive both ProCar seats (pair) and the Recaro. M&R 3 inch harnesses have been installed with four point on the passenger’s side and five point on the driver’s side. Interior mirror is original and in perfect condition outside mirror is a Talbot green dot aluminum body. Again all owners have tried to keep the original look of the car and install only bolt on improvements. Engine was rebuilt with proper case inserts and Divalar studs and remains tight after 10k miles half of them on the track for DE sessions. Engine is fed by heavily jetted 40mm Weber triple throat downdrafts and exhausted by headers and a Stainless M&K exhaust, the sound is inspiring and signals there is more under the lid than a Zenith fed two liter. With the headers we lost heat capability in the car, but the plumbing still remains if the new owner wanted to fit up regular heat exchangers. The transmission is a rebuilt 901 with short gears linked to a custom built WEVO shifter with reverse lock out. Shifting is short crisp and smooth at the same time. WEVO shifter coupling and motor mounts keep everything aligned. Drive train is all business and produces over 200 hp propelling this 2300 lbs package to keep up with more modern 911’s and Corvettes, it really surprises them. The goal of this dual purpose car was to create the most responsive and neutral handling early 911 around, almost approaching the handling of a similarly weighted Miata but with a lot more power. The previous owner swapped in a 911SC front end with 1974 911S aluminum front calipers. Front A-arms had sway bar tabs welded on and rear sway bar mounts were welded to the chassis all professionally done at Patrick Motorsports. Sanders 22 and 27 MM hollow torsion bars were also installed. When I purchased the car I took it further by installing Elephant Racing poly-bronze bearings at all four corners, Elephant Racing rear camber plates, Elephant Racing Rear Camber-Max, http://www.elephantracing.com/ ,18mm rear sway bar and 22 mm front sway bar, bump steer kit, Lemforder 930 Turbo tie rods, rebuilt steering mechanism, Elephant Racing De-Cambered ball joints (more front camber), and an Elephant Racing triangulated strut brace. I think you can tell the suspension is the high point - Camber was set to -1.75 degrees front and -2.5 degrees rear. It has a 1 degree rake (pitch of the chassis) and is corner balanced for a driver at 165 lbs. Rennline gas pedal, engine jack plate, and pedal cover were installed along with a rebuilt bronze bushing pedal box. For better stopping cryo rotors were installed with Hawk Blue pads, not the quietest, but they stop really well. Installed all new brake lines, later model master reservoir mounted in the smuggler’s box and 19mm master cylinder all improved braking performance. Tires are 205/50/15 Toyo R888’s. This resulted in a car that runs a casual 1:49 at Laguna Seca http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAlkoKpW7Xc and will go much faster with an experienced driver behind the wheel. Its great fun on or off the track because it accelerates well and runs through the mountains with ease climbing hills (torque-monster) with tenacity. I have taken 100+ photos of the car in order to show you every aspect, please check them all out at http://imageshack.us/g/38/1002505g.jpg/ One last note, this car will surprise you in the responsiveness of the power train and especially the handling. It’s very light and quick so it can get you into a lot of trouble (with the law) if you aren’t paying attention. It also draws a lot of questions and interest everywhere it is parked so if you don’t want this kind of attention, this isn’t the car for you. Both myself and the previous owner keep in touch with each other and he has driven it as recent as a month ago, we would like to keep up with the car as it goes to the next owner and I DO NOT wish to sell it to a reseller nor a dealer. To support this I have a unique offer; I will reimburse half the cost of enclosed shipping anywhere in the Continental US to the winner of the auction provided you can prove you are; 1) a private party buyer, 2) and register the car in your name. To qualify the winning bidder must have the car transported, he/she will be fully responsible for the full payment and scheduling of the transport company. I recommend either Intercity Lines http://www.intercitylines.com/ or Thomas Sunday http://www.sundayautotransport.com/ . Once the 911 is registered in that person’s name, I would need a copy of the new registration and I will then issue a check for half the transport costs. The winner of the auction will be fully responsible for providing me with a Cashier’s Check in the amount of the winning bid within three (3) business days of auction close and vehicle must be picked up within eight (8) days of the auction ending. With a purchase like this it is impractical to finance; winning bidder should have cash funds available for purchase of the car as well as transportation. If you would rather fly and drive, I am located 20 minutes from San Jose’s Mineta International airport and can come to pick you up. Similar to above, I’ll help out with half the flight (coach fare) and hotel costs for the trip back within the continental United States. Don’t hesitate to contact me http://www.porscheperfect.com/2011/05/11/interview-with-dan-tsuchiya-from-ebay-motors/ if you have any questions, please contact Dan at (408) 600-4691. Enjoy! On Sep-15-11 at 08:48:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the great comments and praise from the eBay and Porsche community about this California based gem, I do hope it goes to another enthusiast that will be able to use it more often than I have. Some common questions have come in and they are based on ownership so I will post them for all to see. 1. Why are you selling it? Answer: It needs to be driven, not parked. I also have a NA Spec Miata (much slower on track) that I have been "training" with. (I know-traitor) 2. Why are the license plates not black? Answer: The second owner spent 1 year in Phoenix and reg'd the car there, lost the black plates and then returned to California. (I know-not smart) To his defense, thought it was a relocation but ended up not liking it there. There was also one comment that came in from a buyer clarifying that it is a 912-911 conversion. In other words it's a clone and done very well. It also has a later motor and front end suspension as mentioned in the description. The car does retain its original VIN tags. Again, if you have any questions before participating in the auction, please don't hesitate to ask. Good Luck Bidding!
