Up for auction is my 1955 Mercury Monterey 2 door hardtop. Completely original and 100% complete. This car is a local Idaho with 72,600 original miles. It was bought new in Twin Falls, Idaho about 2 hrs from Boise, ID where it has remained for 56 yrs. Southern Idaho is high desert country and rust isn't a big problem here. It belonged to a local gentlemen that passed it to his daughter where it was well loved & taken care of as you can tell. The mechanic that serviced & took care of it always wanted it and ended up buying it. Sadly at that point it lived outside and the original paint deteriorated and never got driven. The top was the same dark blue like the dash with the lower light blue. The places where the paint is missing on the trunk area is where the original factory lead work over body seams. This is an all matching #'s car completely untouched as far as originality. all original interior including carpet. Interior was covered so it preserved it well and is still supple and in great shape with the exception of one small cut about 1/2" in the front seat and it is in no danger of ripping more & is very unnoticable The carpets are original & still functionable but the rubber heel pad has deteriorated & the carpet will need replaced at some point. The panels on top of the seats were sun baked so I had one of the premier upholstery guys around here take the rear & front seat backs apart & new correct material (at the tune of $80.00 yd), replace the panels and make new piping. Looks very very good & can't tell from original. The headliner is there and still presentable but showing discoloration where the bows collected condensation moisture. I included a picture of how the trunk looks with clean original paint. Also pictured with original trunk mat. The floor under the seats & carpet are in the same condition. The car is rusts free except the spots on each front corner under stainless below headlights where dirt collect. Easy fix. Not pictured but comes with the car, the original owners manual and original dealer key fob with Mercury logo. The Merc has the original 198 hp 292 c.i. motor with 4 barrel carb that runs sweet with no issues & Merc-0-matic trans that shifts like it did when it left the factory. Car rolls comfortable at freeway speeds & drives true & quiet with traffic. I can't express enough what a pleasure it is to drive. All wiring everywhere under dash, hood, trunk area & under car is in excellent condition & original. I don't have a lift to get pictures, but the car is very clean underneath& retains most of the factory under coating. All the lights work including blinkers, brake, tail, headlights, park lights & interior. Brakes are in good shape & stop good & true. Full set of radials that are about 80% tread. Chrome & bright work are nice with a few dings in stainless trim that is very restorable. I replaced the 6 volt points with a 12 volt electronic ignition & replaced the 6 volt generator with a 12 volt off a 57 Ford so it bolted to original brackets and looks correct. Also replaced with 12 volt regulator & light bulbs. All the gauges work as should. I haven't put a voltage drop for the radio so i haven't turned it on.Could be returned to 6 volt by putting points back in and reversing steps. Has a a great heater & defroster Tubes still look like new & work great. Also included are the original fender skirts in very good shape. The rubber on the skirts are functional but could use replaced. Also the original jack is there. Glass is all very nice & is tinted. I did replace both front driver & passenger side glass with matching tinted glass & new window felts. I had them lubed & adjusted at the same time. All 4 side windows roll up & down like they should. When I bought the car I got a new used tank with it that I installed. The tank looked absolutely brand new inside & was in good shape on the outside. I also put on a new water pump, new fuel pump, new belts & hoses. It was very hot here this summer & the car always runs at correct temperature. The two side mirrors are the sought after tri-bar mirrors. The dash is beautiful but does have an old compass screwed to it & it works. I left this car completely original with just cleaning everything. Still beautiful the way it is & nothing covered up if you did want to restore it. No surprises with this car, just one beautiful 100% original car. I wouldn't be afraid to drive this car anywhere I will be gone to Bonneville Salt Flats from the 14th till the 19th and don't know that I'll be able to get reception on my phone but will try to keep up questions by calling home.
