The previous owner purchased it about 20 years ago, and rode it for two years , then parked it for about 15 years in his garage. It has always been adult owned. Bike is in very good condition overall, never dropped, mostly original, numbers matching, runs well. Would make a GREAT candidate for a restoration or cafe racer project. New Dunlop tires with only a few hundred miles on them. The battery, coils, and cables were replaced two years ago, but the replacement speedometer cable is broken thus the speedometer not currently working but a new cable should correct that issue.(don't buy the chinese speedo cable replacement like I did) Also about 75% of the wiring has been upgraded, and the carburator was rebuilt this season. The brake shoes are in good condition , about 60% life remaining, they are actually the original brake shoes. The rims look good, and are solid, but have been repainted silver, i don't know how the chrome looks underneath, but they are true and no wheel wobble at all. I've had it up to 75-80mph and it ran well. The gas tank is solid, and was lined with tank liner a year ago as a preventative measure. Gas lines and filters new this year. The exhaust system was replaced two years ago, it has shorty pipes and sounds wonderfully loud ! This bike always starts on 1 or 2 kicks and after about a one minute warm up time settles into a nice steady idle and shifts well. It does have the classic Triumph slight oil leak which as anyone who knows Triumphs will tell you came standard with all Triumphs. (the saying was that Triumphs leaked on the showroom floor! Make a habit to check oil level before riding, and you'll never have a problem.) The ride of this vehicle is very nice, and it is quite fast for its age. It gets plenty of looks and comments every single time I take it out. Please note although bike this is in good condition, it is still a 40 year old motorcycle, thus no warranty. I also want to mention that the paint looks nice, and there are no dings or major knicks in the paint, as the previous owner repainted it with the 1968 -69 GT stripe theme, however he DID NOT use automotive quality paint, YES that is the original seat , no rips or tears !! so you may want to consider repainting, or like I did , just take care of it and keep well waxed. A bike like this is best owned by an experienced motorcyclist who has mechanical knowledge, and loves to tinker. will include Triumph Shop manual and with sale. I've been asked by several people why i am selling. I have two other projects, the orange 1971 BSA 250 and the 1973 Triumph Spitfire convertible you can see in the backgrounds of the pictures. I am selling to raise funds to finish these two other projects. A Triumph motorcycle of this era in the $2000 price range is a fair deal. I do not claim this to be a perfect motorcycle, but it is a decent bike for the price range, I have seen some really rough looking project Triumph motorcycles sell for around $2000 on E-Bay. One other thing to mention, it does not have turn signals, they were removed sometime in the past, New york does not require signals on a 1972 bike to pass inspection, likely the same thing in your state. On Sep-10-11 at 12:40:36 PDT, seller added the following information:noticed today headlite bulb burned out ( a $10 item on ebay, also rear tire tube has a leak,( the tire is fine no holes but you will need to patch the tube, new tubes run about $20. ) I WILL DEDUCT $75 OFF THE WINNING BID FOR YOUR INCONVENIENCE
