Vehicle Detail
1972 Mercedes Benz W100 600 SWB - Fully Restored And now from the "they just don't build em like this anymore" category, I am pleased to present this beautifully and fully restored 1972 Mercedes Benz W100 600 SWB. With only 2677 examples produced between 1963-1981, these are quite rare by today's production standards. In 1972, only 210 examples were produced. Of the 2677 total production, it is believed that only 1000-1500 Mercedes 600's still exist today. This car is painted white (more off white or cream) with a dark brown interior. The VIN# 100012-12-002100.This car is a Euro car (see the headlights) and was originally delivered new in Paris. This beauty only has 38,345 original kms or approx. 23,800 miles on it. Super low mileage and it's in great shape. As anyone who knows these cars can attest, these big gorgeous Mercedes can be money pits. Good news for you (bad news for the current owner), in 2008, he has already spent over $100,000 restoring and going thru this car to it's current splendor and has the receipts to prove it. If you purchase a 600 that has been neglected, be prepared to sell some stock to get it fixed. These classic cars come with a refrigerated center console to keep your beverage of choice nice and cold. Also, includes the glassware that came from the factory. Also has a radio control in the rear seating area for the comfort of the rear seat passengers as well as a rare factory installed sunroof. Air conditioning blows cold. Includes original owner's manual.A Brief History - According to Wikipedia The 600 was so heavy that the largest engine of Mercedes at that time, the 6-cylinder 300, was inadequate. Instead a new engine with more than twice the capacity was developed to move the vehicle and its hydraulically powered amenities, the 6.3 L V8 "M100" engine with single overhead camshafts (SOHC), and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The 600 featured many luxury features, including a complex hydraulic 150-bar (2,176 psi) pressure system that powered everything from the windows and seats to the automatically closing doors, sun-roof, and boot lid. Adjustable air suspension gave the car a good ride quality and handling over any road surface.Service Records Service history and service records are critically important on these big 600's as the upkeep and maintenance of these cars can be extremely high. Luckily, (for you) the current owner has spent a boatload of money restoring and maintaining this car and has the service records to prove it. I will summarize the service history below:January 2008, mileage 30,965 km - Repair headliner and repair wires for interior lights ($1615)January 2008 - Replace hood release cable - Complete detail ($642)January 2008 - Replace misc. hoses, bulbs, switches ($280)January 2008 - Replace cold start solenoid - Re-chrome door sill trim ($3474)January 2008 - Full restoration - $76,755 (too much to list but I'll gladly fax the invoice)March 2006 - New interior including wood, sunvisors, curtains, door panels etc. ($15,847)July 2006 - Convert AC to R134 - Replace axle seals - Replace rear diff axle bushing - Replace front suspension steering shock ($7713)Notable Owners - There Were Many Apart from the Pope and governments, famous owners of the 600 include celebrities such as Coco Chanel, Hugh Hefner, Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon, George Harrison, Jay Kay, Aristotle Onassis, Jack Nicholson, Simon Spies, Ronnie Wood, Bob Jane, Frank Packer, Elvis Presley, Rowan Atkinson, and Jeremy Clarkson.[2] Communist leaders include Nicolae Ceausescu, Josip Broz-Tito, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Enver Hoxha, Leonid Brezhnev,[3] Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-Il also owns a landaulet (both seen in the 65th anniversary parade in Pyongyang on October 10, 2010) and religious leader Guru Maharaj Ji. African revolutionaries Idi Amin Dada, Jomo Kenyatta and the former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos had four 600s including a Landaulet, a 1981 bulletproof and a six-door version.[citation needed]Iran royal court and Iran's Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi owned multiple 600 models that were used for official and personal use of the late Shah and his court. Some of them were sold after the 1979 islamic revolution and 3 of them are in the National Car Museum of Iran in Karaj.[citation needed]Other notable owners include Saddam Hussein, Sukarno, Frederik Willem de Klerk, Éamon de Valera, and Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus.
