Vehicle Detail

Here's a chance to own a very original 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 4dr. sedan with it's original 283 V-8 and powerglide automatic. This is a very nice car that needs only some minor restoration and is 99% rust free. In a few days of tinkering, it could be on the road and shown as a survivor, great father/son project! Here's some of the history of the car as I hear it. It was bought from the original owners son several years ago. That person put a lot of money in to it, money well spent on important things like new tires, complete front end rebuild, etc. which I have receipts for. That person passed away and I acquired it from his family. During the time it was with his heirs, it appears to have been neglected a little, but it's still a very nice car. I have looked this car over top and bottom and I will describe it to you exactly as I see it. Exterior It appears to have been a Florida car it's entire life, there are no signs of any accident damage and every bit of chrome looks original to the car. The bumpers are straight, the grill, headlight bezels, hood rockets, are all very nice. Some of the chrome is getting a little thin but it's very presentable. There are a couple of dings in the side chrome, about three pieces but it's fixable. It may have had one repaint or a partial repaint at some point. It's almost impossible to find any evidence of a repaint anywhere but the paint is a little too nice to be original. Whoever painted it, if it was indeed painted, did it without a trace. The colors of the car are Surf Green and India Ivory. The hubcaps are original and in nice shape, the lights and lenses are clear and work, all of the gaps in the panels are even and the trunk and hood open and close perfectly. A few of the emblems are bent or damaged, the windshield is cracked and has some fogging on the lower corners, the outside mirror heads are broken off (vandalism?). There is some minor rust bubbles that have just started on the lower front doors and a couple on the roof, none of them are bigger than a dime in diameter. There is also a little rust in the drivers rear quarter that has just started. All of the undercarriage is rock solid along with the rockers and all other structural areas of the car. It's 99.5% rust free. Overall I would rate the exterior of the car a 7.5 out of 10 Interior It appears to be mostly original but the seats have been reupholstered. The door panels are original and rough, the carpet has been replaced. All of the dash is original including the steering wheel. The horn doesn't work. All of the windows and locks need some work, they are tight and the rear passenger side door doesn't open. The headliner is original and it needs to be replaced. The passenger front window is cracked (new glass included with car). The dash lights work and so do the gauges. The trunk is nice with a new mat, the spare tire is new and all of the jack equipment is there. The odometer reads 108K miles, which seems very possible to be original. The door weatherstripping is shot, it looks original too (new weatherstripping included). The original radio is gone, there was an aftermarket radio but it's gone too, I have an original AM radio on the way, it's also included with the car. Sadly, someone broke the column shifter sleeve, I have it put together with zip ties and it shifts fine, it could be fixed (again, vandalism??) Overall, I would rate the interior a 5 out of 10. Mechanical It has it's orginal 283 V-8 with date code F522FC which means it was made on May 22, 1957 and it's the correct 283 4bbl with powerglide. Everything on the engine appears to be correct and original, except it's been converted to an alternator. It has the correct Carter 2505 4bbl carb, which needs a rebuild. The heater core has been bypassed and the water pump leaks. This car ran great and has glasspack mufflers and factory dual exhaust. However, due to the condition of the carb, it's very difficult to get it started, but it does run and drive good once it's started. The transmission seems to work perfectly and is also original to the car, as far as I can tell. The radiator was recently replaced (have receipt). The entire front suspension was rebuilt in 2006 at a cost of over $1500 (receipt) and the Firestone tires were replaced at about the same time (receipt). It could use a tune up, a carb rebuild, and a new water pump and it should be ready to cruise. Mechanically I would rate this car a 8 out of 10. Overall My impression of this car is that it's a nice original car that was well maintained over the past 54 years, until just a couple of years ago. It may have been the victim of vandalism or a domestic dispute of some kind. However, none of what's wrong with it is a major expense or repair. Anyone with knowledge of basic automotive systems and a set of tools could have this car back in great condition for very little money and effort. Literally, a few days of work and a new set of door panels would make it show worthy. Included with this car are all of the receipts over the past five years or so including, front end rebuild, new parts from Ecklers, Firestone tires, etc. I also have brand new rocker moldings with clips in the boxes, radio knobs, a "V" for the trunk, all new door weather seals and a few other items. I also have a correct 57 AM radio that's included with the car. Please look at all of my photos and ask me any questions you may have. I'm a devout car enthusiast and I can be reached at 941-720-0300, my name is Jason. I take my Ebay sales very seriously and I describe all of my items honestly. I'm offering this car at no reserve. I can help coordinate shipping arrangements but the car is difficult to get started so a carrier with a winch would be appropiate. Thanks for looking! Don't miss out on this affordable piece of iconic American history!
