Vehicle Detail
Offered here is a 1966 Jeep Universal CJ-6, the rare long wheelbase version of the CJ-5. Making this Jeep even more rare is the Dauntless V-6 optional motor, which Kaiser Corp. bought the rights to use from Buick and installed for the first time in 1966. Known as the 'oddfire' for its unique firing order and loping idle, the little motor is known for its torque characteristics. I don't have specific production numbers but Jeep only made a handful of CJ-6s each year from 1955-1975. This example is in great shape with only surface rust. The toolbox is perfect, a common area for rust. Purchased truck from owner in Colorado where it was used as a high-country hunting vehicle. Showing 103,000 on the odo, but I have no way of verifying this. I've never driven it off road in the seven years I've had it. The good: Body is in great shape with a little bondo on the driver's side behind entry cutout. Other than that straight and true. Runs great, new 2-bbl Rochester carb, new alternator, new wiring harness, new gas tank, and new 700x15 farm tires, aggressive tread, with less than 100 miles on them. Also has rare 2/3-1/3 seat option rather than buckets. Passenger seat folds forward or comes all the way out to allow entry to rear and access to toolbox. Auxiliary RV heater with 2-speed fan. Original V6 emblems. Paint is a Forest Green with black rhino liner material on the inside. Original black windshield that folds down. Electric wiper motors at top of window. Brakes work fine, four wheel drive shifts and works fine, lockout hubs function as they should. Recent mufflers. Sidemount spare. Has factory rear bumper with trailer hitch. The bad: All gauges work except temp and voltage. Has accessory gas gauge. The rhino-liner stuff is getting thin in places, should be re-applied or scraped off. Some of the green paint is peeling on the interior to reveal the original color, Harbor Blue, sort of a mid-blue metallic. Horn is there, but blows only some of the time. The paint could use a rubbing compound and waxing, it's getting a little dull. I don't mind it this way, but you might like it shiny. Jeep marks its spot a little bit, believe the transfer case seal is leaking. Accessories: Three possible configurations for tops: Bare, full-length canvas bikini with frame and period-correct Sears aluminum half-cab with locking doors and slide-down windows. Top is currently taken apart and uses set screws to assemble, not hard to do. Roll bar also goes with. Also have parallel fold-up seats out of a '69 Toyota Land Cruiser that could be fitted on each side of cargo area for seating up to 7! I have not gotten around to installing these, but they will go with Jeep. They are green framed with white tuck-n-roll upholstery in decent shape. The seats fold up to allow full use of bed area. Will try to get some pics up of seats after 8/28. All in all a rare Jeep classic with rare engine, that's double rare! And not so nice that you can't actually use it like a Jeep was intended to be used! Feel free to ask questions, I will answer after 8/28.
