Vehicle Detail

1981 Delorean DMC-12! In great overall condition! This is hands down my favorite car ever made..Anyone looking at this listing most likely knows the feeling that you get from this car..Theres just something amazing about it..From the story of John Delorean to it's bumpy production run of two years, to the Back to the Future films that have ensured that the cars legacy will live on forever. I have loved this car ever since the moment I knew it existed, and from the day I purchased this particular car in 2003, I treated it like a baby. For 4 years, I drove this car frequently, but only in the best weather conditions. It never saw one drop of rain or snow or hail, you name it, in it's time with me, and according to the previous owner, it was never in inclement weather with him either. There was one more owner, the original, and as far as I know it also never saw any weather other than perfect sunny/cloudy days with that owner..So basically this car has never seen any bad weather in its 30 years of life! In the years that I was driving this car, I had all new brakes installed and also had the car lowered with Delorean lowering springs which I believe I bought from PJ Grady..It was either them or DMC in California, both very great companies as I'm sure most of you know. I changed the oil regularly, washed the car every weekend in and out, and bought a bunch of accessories sold by DMC California to enhance the physical appearance of the car. (I will list all these below and they are also shown in the pictures.) In 2006 I purchased a fuel accumulator to take care of the hot start problem that is extremely common in these cars. Before I could have this installed in the car however, I had some family and financial issues arise that didnt allow for me to put any more money or time into the Delorean. So since early 2007, the car has been in a garage and covered. Ive been hoping for years that I wouldnt end up having to sell this car and that I'd be able to invest more time and money into making it absolutely perfect..However; it just sadly does not make sense for me to keep this car at this time. I hope that it will go to an owner that will truly appreciate the car and make sure it can be perfect again. With all that said, the description: As I said, up until I stored the car away in 2007, i was driving it frequently. The only problem that it had was the common hot start problem which I bought a fuel accumulator for that will be included in the sale. Luckily when I put the car into storage it was on an empty fuel tank. I didnt drain the fuel tank completely, but there was very very little gas in the car. The owner before me said that he had put in all new hoses in 2000 so they should most likely be fine. The battery in the car is dead and I haven't tried to start it since 2007..This is the state that I am selling the car in. I sadly just dont have the time to do anything to the car because I am moving from my house at the end of this month. I can guarantee that the car drove perfectly up until the time it was stored. It has sat covered for 4 and a half years in 2 different clean and mostly undisturbed garages. (had to flatbed tow it once when my parents sold their house to its new location) The pictures will show you that it is a very fine physical example of a Delorean..Like I said, i truly babied this car and even washed it periodically while it was stored. The seats have normal minimal wear as is to be expected of a 30 year old car. There are also 2 very small blemishes on the body that are both shown in the pictures. One is a small "gremlin" as they are referred to among Delorean owners on the roof of the car right behind the doors..its not very noticeable. The other is a small scrape on the front bumper right next to the small yellow daytime running lights. Again its very small and nothing major..The front fascia also has a small dip on the passenger side that is also common with the Delorean. However; it is not nearly as bad as some of them can be. You can see all those for yourselves in the pictures. The wheels are in good condition. The front passenger side wheel has some minor discoloration that I'm not sure how to fix..Maybe just some good deep professional cleaning...It's only really noticeable when are up close and staring at it. Here is a list of some of the additions that I've put on the car: All new brakes, pads and discs - $1700 in 2005 Delorean Lowering Springs - $400 '04 Stainless Steel Replacement Coolant Bottle - $139 from DMC California in '05 Stainless Steel engine blocker?(forget what this is called but you can see it clearly in the pictures) - $25-50? '05 Stainless door sill silhouette set - $75 '05 License plate squares - $25 '05 Stainless Bumper Letters - $75 '05 Valve Stem Covers - $19.95 '05 DMC logo floormats - $60-90? All new struts for the doors, hood, and louvers $100something '05 The car is overall pretty perfect... The stainless is beautiful. The windows are all perfect except some very light little chips, not cracks!, on the passenger side casing window..not the part that goes up and down. The interior is in very good condition. The biggest blemish being the cracked dashboard that cases the speedometer, fuel gauge, etc..The rest of the dash is flawless. The seats again have very minimal wear and no tears at all. There is a small seam that could easily be stitched on the drivers side seat. The floormats are very clean as is all the carpeting throughout the car. The carpeting inside the trunk(hood) is like brand new. Steering wheel is in great shape as are all the dials and plastic on the doors and middle console. Now for the negatives: About 7 months ago I went to check on the car in storage and both doors were opening fine. I closed them and locked the car and left it til about a month ago. Suddenly the drivers side door is jammed shut! It is jammed on the side nearest to the front of the car..I have no idea how to fix that, but even though its extremely annoying, I've been assured that it's not a big problem and has apparently happened quite often among owners. The engine cover(not the louvers) wont stay up on its own. The piece that holds it in place isnt strong enough and keeps sliding instead of holding still. Dont think this is a big deal, probably just a small cheap fix. The doors may need some slight adjustment as they "click" before they perfectly slide into place when you close them. It's nothing damaging at all. Just need an adjustment. The stitching on the side panels of the interior is not perfect, isnt too costly to replace The weather stripping needs replacing ADDITIONAL ITEMS THAT WILL COME WITH THE CAR! Original Craig Radio(car currently has a Blaupunkt CD player but the previous owner saved the Craig radio and its stored in a nicely padded box. Delorean Parts Manual Delorean Owners Manual Fuel Accumulator Okay, I know that was long, but thats the kind of description I'd want if I was buying a Delorean! Please if you have any questions at all just email me and I will give you my phone number if youd rather talk than email about the car...Buyer will be responsible for shipping or you can pick the car up in person. I just ask for a $300 deposit from the winning bidder within a day after the auction closes. Thank you and good luck bidding!!
