Vehicle Detail
Here for sale I have a red 1971 Mustang convertible. I bought this car used about 4 years ago. Prior to that, I have no idea of the ownership trail. I also have no idea of the vehicle history before I got the car. I do, however, know some other things about this car. From the door tag, this Mustang shipped as follows: Body 76D (convertible), Color 3 (Bright Red), Trim (vermillion, all vinyl, comfort weave), Build Date 12/70, Plant F (Dearborn, MI), Engine F (302 V8 2V), Axle 3 2.79:1 conventional, Transmission W (C4 automatic), DSO B6 (Western Canada), and finally Unit Number 149085. I have driven this car maybe 500 miles since buying it in September of 2007. Currently this Mustang has a 351W engine. Since purchasing this car, I have done the following to it: replaced the hood and right front fender. They were both crumpled from a very low-speed roll into a telephone pole on a slight incline. I watched it happen. Oops. Replaced the front bumper, grill, and indicator lights. Found various interior dash trim parts, including center bezel, glove box, original am radio. Bought a fastener kit and replaced as many screws as possible with original. Purchased a new convertible boot cover. Installed a Holley 2-barrel carb with electronic choke. Repaired the power antenna. Had the vehicle thoroughly serviced by a mechanic, tuned, brakes adjusted, hoses replaced--general maintenance. I bought this car following a dream I created in 1971 when I was in the seventh grade to own a red 'stang convertible. The car runs beautifully and has been well maintained since I have had it. As noted above, I have driven this car very little indeed. My goal here is to pass it along to someone who has more expertise than I to continue restoring this vehicle, as I believe it is a fantastic canvas upon which to work restoration magic. Or, it could simply fulfill another's similar dream to mine. Here are some things about the car that you need to know, too: the car has power windows with a master control on the driver's door. This control, like the motors in the windows, is getting really tired out. The driver's window works quite well, while the passenger's window needs some persuasion, and the two rear dagger windows even more persuasion than that. There is a missing bezel on the driver's rear dagger window switch. The convertible top works, though also getting tired out. The top has a lot of joint and edge wear, but is not torn or ripped. The knob on the roof switch on the dash is missing. The heater blower fan has been replaced. As this car is under cover during the rain and the winter, I don't know how well if the defroster works. The heater seems to heat OK. The dash bezels are not all original and don't all match to this particular car. There are AC vents but no AC. There has been some undercarriage work (or so it appears) replacing floor pans and other chassis metal that may have rusted out. At this time, the car is very clean and not driven in any conditions that would contribute to rust formation. While the car leaks no oil, it does have a minor power steering leak. Speaking of steering, it has a Grant steering wheel. The side mirror on the driver's side was adjustable through a wire into the interior of the car. This cable device does not work any more. Both mirrors are a bit loose, and the passenger side mirror doesn't stay focused on the road too well. The trunk key is a little stubborn from time to time. There is about a 1/2 inch reveal between the hood and right front fender. These two parts were after-market, purchased to make repairs from the thumper I described earlier in the listing. The power locks do not lock at the present time. I think swapping out the master switch panel, separate window switches, and window motors would be a good thing to do. I have not been able to find these parts. The interior of this car is in great shape. The vinyl is intact and in really good condition. There are NO rear seatbelts, and the front belts are after-market that I replaced. The floor has red carpeting. The body has Mach I style striping and a ram air hood. The grille with indicators is I believe also a Mach I replication. The mags are American Racing wheels. The tires are in great shape. Bottom line: this is a fun old Mustang. It has been well cared for since I have had it, has been driven very little, and could easily be a daily driver. I hope that you are interested in bidding on this car, and I certainly thank you for looking. I try to be a conscientious Ebay participant, and I will do the very best I can to help you on this auction. Thank you for looking at my listing!
