Vehicle Detail
1975 Honda CB400F Café Racer I started building this bike last October, I bought it as a stock CB400F that was in good original condition. After watching the show Café Racer on Discovery HD Theatre I decided that I would give it a shot building one myself. I have had over 40 motorcycles and have built 2 customs before this bike. 70’s Honda CB’s are a great start as they were good reliable bikes then and parts are still available now. I completely disassembled this bike, replaced, rebuilt, or re-finished every part and started the build process into a custom. The motor was taken apart down to the connecting rods and rebuilt from there. I did not split the cases or touch the transmission as it works & shifts perfectly, the bike has a 6 speed transmission which was pretty unique in 1975. The motor was bored out to 466cc by Pat Doyle of New England Performance, 54.5mm diameter pistons were installed, that is the largest bore that can be done to a CB400F. The cylinder head was rebuilt with new valve seals, I hand lapped the stock valves and completely rebuilt the motor from the connecting rods up. The cylinder head has been painted black with high temp engine paint. All parts were cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner prior to rebuild. The carburetors were ultrasonically cleaned and completely rebuilt & jetted for this application of 466cc, stock cam, K&N pod filters & Mac 4-1 header. The points systems has been replaced with a Dyna S electronic ingnition. The wheels I built using powdercoated black aluminum rims, new spokes, & completely ultrasonically cleaned, black epoxy coated hubs with new “All Balls Racing” bearings. Frame was black epoxy coated, new swingarm bushings were installed along with an “All Balls Racing” tapered roller bearings. I have put on 200 miles since the rebuild and the bike runs great & handles better than new due to the upgraded wheels/tires & suspension combination that was not available in 1975 Below is a list of what was replaced or installed new and or rebuilt/refinished Engine · 466 big bore kit · Clutch plates & springs · Carbs rebuilt & jetted · New throttle & tach cables · Valves lapped & new seals · All new gaskets & seals · Refinished case · Black cylinder head · Polished rocker box cover · Custom fluted polished aluminum valve adjust covers · Custom “466” logo alternator cover · New Mac 4 into 1 exhaust · Dyna S electronic ignition · K&N pod air filters · Synthetic oil Frame · Refinished black epoxy main frame, swingarm, & kickstand · Refinished black epoxy triple trees · New swingarm bushings · New tapered roller steering bearings Wheels / Suspension & brakes · New 18” black powder coated aluminum rims · New spokes · Rebuilt & Refinished black epoxy hubs with new bearings front & rear · New front & rear brake pads · Rebuilt & Refinished front caliper · Custom machined & drilled front wave rotor · New Avon performance tires · Installed fork gaters · Black epoxy lower fork legs · New fork seals · Performance fork Bel-Ray fork oil · New Rear gas shocks with custom springs General · Custom café seat with metal pan to fit stock hinge & seat lock · Black café bars similar to clubman without the low drop · Refinished Speedo & tack with white faces & needles · 1963 Honda diecast OEM logos on tank · New tank petcock with in-tank filter · Custom cut front fender · New complete wiring harness · Custom turn signals front & rear · Modified headlight bracket to lower headlight · New headlight shell · LED tail/stop light · 2010 Ducati Monster headlight fairing · Ducati grips · Custom bar-end mirrors that actually work well· New Speedo cable · Stainless steel allen head screws relplaced stock screws in many places This bike has a clear Massachusetts title in hand and is registered & inspected. I also have service manuals to go with the bike I welcome all questions about the bike and can send specific pictures of any part of the bike as I have took a pic of everything This is a great opportunity to own a rebuilt classic Custom Honda at a great price as I am looking to get the $ I have into it, the labor is free as it was a fun project for me and it’s time to start anotherWill assist in shipping or pickup is welcome
