This bus falls into a rare, niche market as it has the foundation in place to be a top-level restoration but is finished off as a driver. We are not shooting for the stars with this auction; in fact I have it listed with "no reserve" and no funny business. The high bidder will own it at the close of auction. Please take time to read the following features of this great bus and I think you will understand what an amazing value this could be for you. Drive Train: · freeway geared 12V big-nut transaxle with approx. 20K since rebuild · rebuilt shift linkage, new bushings and rod hanger · desirable 66-67 needle bearing beam with factory sway bar · rebuilt steering system and adjusted steering box · new drag link and center pin · new cables, properly greased · new engine mounts · seamless axle boots · new fuel tank and all new proper metric fuel lines · new load rated LT tires with a nice vintage-looking tread pattern Engine: · new clutch · oil cooler seals · intake manifold gaskets · cleared intake heat riser · blasted and repainted engine tins · this engine leaks its fair share of oil · 1600cc single port, unknown mileage but it does run well · please check the options list below for engine options Brakes: · fresh complete brake job · all new metal "hard lines" front to rear · new wheel cylinders · new master cylinder · new brake shoes · new rubber "soft lines" front and rear · freshly-turned brake drums front and rear · working and properly-adjusted emergency brake · grease-able E-brake pin installed Body - Paint and Metalwork: Paint: Painted in PPG K35 sealer mixed with PPG single-stage and tinted to factory correct Sealing Wax/Beige Grey paint codes. This makes for a 100% washable UV-stable finish that can easily be prepped over without stripping if you decide to go with a full-tilt paint job in the future. We chose this method for a few reasons: I wanted this bus to be driven and anyone who has ever owned a full-tilt restoration knows that once they are done to that level, the thought of a nick or scratch will usually keep it in the garage. The second consideration was cost; full-tilt paint jobs are expensive and would have possibly doubled the selling price! Metalwork: · properly done metalwork to a high standard · belly pans opened up to take care of all the hidden rust sunroof buses tend to collect · replaced top hats, outriggers, cross members, belly pans and floors at the factory seams · rebuilt entire heater duct system replacing all of the commonly rusted joints · replaced inner and outer rockers · while the bus was apart the belly pans and frame rails were painted with POR15 to prevent rust in the future · nice solid doors all around · very nice nose skin, required very minimal bodywork Interior: · dash and cab areas were painted in PPG single-stage Beige Grey · radio block off plate · nice original speedometer and horn button · repainted steering column, E-brake lever and shifter in proper Silver Beige · nice original speedometer and working fuel gauge · original clock in place but not currently operational · new front seat upholstery on Wolfsburg West padding · fully usable and drivable as-is but interior is left unfinished Other Notable Extras: · restored pop-out and door window frames painted in PPG single-stage Beige Grey · original glass and all new seals · new body seals throughout · new Wolfgang Safari Windows · new wiper shafts and safari pivots · new sunroof cover; sunroof slides open and closed with ease · full underside of the belly pans, frame rails and front floor were painted with tinted dark grey POR15 · wheel wells painted in Sealing Wax Red for a factory-fresh look · new taillight assemblies and new turn signal housings and lenses · excellent electrical system, everything is working as it should · collector vehicle registration Known Defects: · wrong sunroof handle, but it is functional · cheapo-type air cleaner · hub caps have minor defects but look good · Ignition key only, no door keys (I can direct you to a VW specialty locksmith) · front floor mat is original and worn · no seat belts · no interior lights · small access hole above fuel tank for the sender · transaxle cradle was cleaned but not painted · please understand that this is not a full restoration or high end paint job Please see options listed below: Engine · I did not replace the engine in this bus because I realize the buyer might not want a stock engine or you might want to handle the rebuild yourself. · I have a written quote on a rebuilt engine including installation and tune with a 12/12 warranty for $2,000.00. This is something that I can have done before shipping (or pick up) if the new owner is interested. I would be happy to take care of it for you. The cost would be paid by you directly to the shop. This is a top-notch shop that we use for all of our engine work. Interior · I left the interior as a clean slate; I know everybody has a different idea of what they envision. · If you would like us to complete the interior, we would be happy to do that for you. Please email me and we can go over ideas and prices. Some examples are: · stock interior with correct rear seats and interior panels · custom camper · beach/show hang out · or ? Suspension/wheels · Custom lowered suspension and/or custom wheels can be added at additional cost; please email me for options. Some Final thoughts... We bought this bus a shop project a few months ago. The original plan was to build an affordable Sunroof Deluxe during down time. We went a little over the top since there was no customer holding us back on budget! What we ended up with is an extremely solid bus built to be a fun, reliable driver not a car show queen. We took great care to set up the mechanicals and controls so the final owner will have a bus that is turn-key and user friendly! There is a clean Washington state title in my name, and I have the birth certificate from the Wolfsburg museum showing that this bus was originally delivered to San Francisco, a true California bus! In recent months buses like this have been selling for world record prices. In fact, one top-notch restored bus just sold at auction for more than 200K! I know you will get just as much enjoyment out of this bus for a small fraction of the price!
