Vehicle Detail
1967 Oldsmobile Toronado Up for your consideration is this clean example of one of GM's flagships. I have no paperwork with the vehicle, it has no title because they are not required in this state for a vehicle this old. If your state requires a title for a vehicle of this vintage, then you would need to investigate this on your own. The oldest registration I could find in my name is from 2004, showing 84,176 miles and shows it is a re-registration. So I have probably owned it for 8 years or so and put around 5K on it. The guy I purchased it from had it repainted (1st time) at the local Chevy/Cadillac dealership @ a cost of 3K (again, no receipt). The person he bought it from (Portland, ME) had the car shipped from Spokane, WA and supposedly put 12K into the mechanicals and stopped there. In other words, if you stand next to the car/get in & drive it, you get the impression that this Toro has had much attention garnished on it (physically & financially). It hasn't fallen into the wrong hands and been abused, as many of these early Toro's were. The under car picture of the drive train shows wet areas, however, this car doesn't shoot blue out the tailpipes and it's been in the same spot in the garage for years with no cardboard under it (no puddles). The exhaust is louder than it should be (cherry bombs and some weird trumpet exhaust tips). The right hand head pipe is a tad loose at the manifold and hits on the torsion bar (rattles a little when the car is cold). Battery seems weak, but I have put about 300 miles on it this year and haven't had to jump or charge it. The bumpers are solid, (as is the rest of the body and the under carriage, pans, etc.) with some peeling to the nickel on the upper front and scrapes and dings on the rear bar. Looks like typical garage wear from an older park by ear driver. The chrome on the wheels, handles, O/S mirror, the stainless trim and the emblems are all clean. Minor pitting around the diecast taillights. The dashpad, carpet, seats, headliner, rear deck panels, etc. are original and impressive. The door weather strips, the outside glass whiskers, etc. are original and show no signs of weathering. The tinted glass has no pitting or scratch issues. I have never added to the A/C and it still blows cool. The hubcaps are dinged/dented. The right front tire starts to go low in about 5 days. I am also aware that it has a light spark knock if you crowd it (so I don't do that). This is a premium fuel only engine that I run regular gas in. I have never addressed this issue, the car doesn't predetonate around town or on I-95. The car still wears it's original vinyl roof. It has a trunk mat, but no cardboard, can't imagine why somebody would throw it away (trunk appears to have always been dry). PW & power seat operate smooth and quiet. Original A/M transistor radio brings in one station around here (all oldies). So, in closing, if you're looking to win awards, you would probably need to invest more time and money into this vehicle. The car has never really been about that to me. It's hard to win an award against a vehicle that has had 25-30K invested in it and says SS on the side. Yes, it has been to a few shows and it gets plenty of compliments wherever you drive or park it, but mostly I use it for day trips on rare occasions. It's been around New Hampshire and to PEI, Canada and it's never let me down. The reason I am selling is to complete a '56 Continental Mark II, which I have been doing a ground up on for the past 12 yrs. You are more than welcome to come view the vehicle. Please phone or email with any questions. 207-465-9637, Marty or Rhonda. As the car has been advertised locally, seller reserves the right to end auction early, unless reserve price has been met.
