You are looking at one of the finest unrestored, original 1965 Cadillac Sedan DeVille Hardtops left on the planet. On March 5th, this car won the prestigious AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) HPOF (Historic Preservation of Original Features) First Place Survivor Award at the AACA National Meet in Homestead, FL. It was also the subject of a feature article in Old Cars Weekly Magazine in January of this year, an article that marveled at the rarity of a totally original car that is nearly a half century old. ONE OWNER - ONE GARAGE - FOR 46 YEARS! From the gorgeous white grained vinyl top to the massive body and paint, the car is ALL original. No accidents, no paintwork, no excuses. When I purchased the car, even the TIRES were original (US Royal Laredo white walls). I had to replace the four on the ground, but the original spare is in fine shape and still lives in this Caddy’s massive trunk. Let the air out of the spare and you’ll smell Detroit, 1965!! This car has been garaged since its original purchase and is in such great mechanical shape that you could drive it anywhere in comfort and real style! CONDITION: INTERIOR, TRUNK AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT Before you take this car for a spin, you might want to check out the magnificent all original interior. The handsome leather & cloth upholstery remains in close-to-new condition, with fold down armrests front & rear. Door panels, headliner, dash and carpet are all original and undamaged – even the factory Cadillac floor mats remain in place. But if you lift the floor mats, you’ll find that original turquoise carpeting still in like-new condition! Check out the glass – factory clear all around with no clouding or delaminating. As for the engine and trunk compartments, they are also original and in incredible condition. Under the hood, only the valve covers and water pump have been painted. You’ll notice factory stickers and final inspection stamps are original and in-place. That includes the ‘Final OK’ stamp on the ORIGINAL A/C compressor. If your heart is still pounding after examining the exterior and interior, take the next step and turn the key!! Because the most exciting thing about this big Cadillac is the way it drives: absolutely like brand new! Remember that old saying: “runs like a sewing machine?” They were talking about this Cadillac. The massive 429 Cubic Inch V8 starts right up, accelerates with authority and runs like it did when it left the factory. OPTIONS AND DOCUMENTATION Looking for creature comforts with your new ’65 Cadillac? How about ICE COLD Factory Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Six Way Power Seat, Power Antenna, Twilight Sentinel and the original Cadillac AM radio that still sounds great. Push the tuning dial ‘in’ and the power antenna travels up. Pull it ‘out’ and the antenna travels back down (the seek feature is inoperative). All that plus an original clock – that still keeps time!! If all that wasn’t enough, this 1965 Sedan DeVille comes with impressive credentials, including its original keys, the original window sticker (not a reproduction), the receipt given the original owner for his initial $500 deposit dated October 6th, 1964, original order form with the same date, original signed bill of sale dated March 15th, 1965, all books and manuals AND the owner’s Protect-O-Plate warranty card. THIS CAR'S UNIQUE HISTORY This DeVille was the object of what was called a ‘VIP Delivery.’ Inspect the paperwork and you’ll note that on all documents, including the original order form, the original window sticker AND the protect-O-Plate, ‘Cadillac Motor Division’ is listed as the ‘Dealer.’’ In my 35 years of collecting classic cars, this is the first time I’ve seen this. Vehicles are almost ALWAYS sold and delivered through franchised dealers. That’s how the industry works. But in some cases, VIP purchasers in those days were allowed to bypass the dealer and pick up their Cadillac directly from the factory. That’s how this Sedan DeVille Hardtop got its special designation! YOU SHOULD KNOW Please take note that this is NOT a restored car, thus it is not perfect. Though the factory original lacquer paint is gorgeous, remember that it is 46 years old. There are some isolated areas that have developed ‘spider-webbing,’ where there are tiny raised lines, like spider webs. (Please see close-up photos). It’s a patina that has developed over 46 years. Also, while most of the interior bright work is nearly perfect, some of the exterior brightwork has minor pitting. This is a stunning automobile that is still so nice and so original that it just earned the prestigious AACA HPOF 1st Place Survivor Award. It is a National Award for quality and originality given each year to a limited number of non-restored vehicles by the Antique Automobile Club of America. This award is not given at local or regional shows, ONLY at National meets. In case you’ve forgotten, as of the start of the auction this all original 1965 Cadillac has only 25,100 actual, documented miles!! The car IS driven on weekends and thus could have slightly more miles at the auction close.
