Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a one-owner, 343 cid, V8-powered American Motors Ambassador Station Wagon. The AMC is owned by the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a non-profit museum dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of transportation history. The original purchaser gave the Museum this car approximately three years ago and it has been kept in indoor storage ever since. We recently took the car out of storage. It started right up with the installation of a charged battery and fresh gas. This wagon is in decent overall condition, but is far from perfect. Unfortunately for us, it is not exhibit-worthy in its current state and we have other project vehicles that are ahead of it in our queue. As a result it is being offered to the highest bidder with no reserve and a reasonable opening bid. It will make a nice, easy restoration project for its new owner. The car is not for sale outside of eBay and the auction will not be ended early. All proceeds benefit the Museum. The wagon was test driven around the Museum campus. It was not taken out on the open road. It was registered as an antique vehicle in the state of Pennsylvania when it was donated. The car is operable and would probably be roadworthy with a little bit of work. It is in need of a good tuneup and general going over. The car has virtually no power equipment but the radio does work and the a/c system is complete appears to be functional. The power rear window is not working. The steering and suspension are good and the lights and turn signals work. The car’s paint appears to be original. We did not find any evidence of overspray and the original owner did not indicate that it was ever repainted. The overall condition of the finish is poor to fair with evidence of fading, multiple scratches, numerous small dents and sections of rust, mainly on the rear quarters and lower edges of the doors and wheel wells. There is also a section of rust on the lower corner of the tailgate. The bumpers, emblems and trim all are complete and installed, but show signs of wear and fading. The glass is good. The wagon has a factory roof rack and comes with an extra fuel pump, belts and spark plug wire set. The underside of the car is solid and shows no signs of rust through. Inside the original interior is complete. The front seats have some damage, including a broken headrest. The rear seat is near perfect. The carpet is stain free and in good shape except for a worn and ripped area on the driver’s side. The dash and door panels are both suffering with some areas where the vinyl finish is beginning to lift. The headliner is very nice. The AMC is accurately represented in the photographs but interested parties are encouraged to ask questions and/or schedule a personal inspection. This vehicle is offered as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. It has a valid Pennsylvania title which will be transferred to the new owner upon successful completion of the transaction. Shipping and transportation of the car will are the responsibility of the new owner. We will gladly work with you or the shipper/transporter of your choice to coordinate the move. The new owner will have two weeks from the completion of the auction to pick up the vehicle unless other arrangements are made in advance. The car is located at the AACA Museum, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, PA 17033. Payment may be in the form of cash, money order, cashier’s check or PayPal.
