Vehicle Detail

1984 Mercedes-Benz 250 Lang - factory stretch W123 - 3.8 V8 This 1984 W123 lang was imported into the Port of Los Angeles on December 11, 1984 by Columbia Savings & Loan, a Beverly Hills bank that collapsed in the early 1990's. The car was built for the bank's chief executive, a discerning Mercedes-Benz enthusiast (and for all of you finance geeks out there, among the largest purchasers of junk bonds issued by the defunct investment bank Drexel Burnham). More importantly as it concerns this vehicle, Columbia was the lender that bankrolled the west coast's most prominent grey market importer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, Gregg Motors of Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara. Note to buyers - Ebay requires a US VIN for cars after 1981 - this is a 1984 vehicle with a European VIN, not a 1980 vehicle. This is a European specification, legally imported, factory-built stretch W123. This vehicle is based on the same W123 platform of the ever popular 240D, 300D, and 300TD. This vehicle left the factory with the standard 2.5 liter engine but was imported to the US with an aluminum 3.8 liter V8. The vehicle was chauffeur driven, and accumulated very few miles over the years. The vehicle was donated to the Petersen Automotive Musuem in Los Angeles, and subsequently deaccessioned. Paint and interior are original and in great condition - among the nicest W123's in the world. There is some wear in the driver's seat, fading in the woodwork, and a small tear in the dashboard. In 2010 and 2011, the vehicle went through a major overhaul at G&N Mercedes in Los Angeles. Work included: - 8 cylinder major service (oil, filters, fluids, belt checks, etc) - new front and rear brake pads and sensors - replace two motor mounts - R134 modification and A/C recharge - replace right and left valve stem seal - calibrate engine and idle control valve - new battery - replace center muffler and exhaust pipe (this was difficult - took a long time to find) - installation of original euro headlamps The stereo and video system were a state-of-the-art system back in the1980's (with boomerang antenna and all) - both have ceased working since the digital transition and could use an update. Here is the decoded VIN information (this is as the vehicle left the factory): VIN WDB1230281A210346 Model 250 Chassis 1230281A210346 Engine 123921 12 006507 Transmission 722308 02 550481 Order 0 4 557 16969 Approx. year 1984 Dealer Austria (557) Interior velours blue (952) Paint 904 midnight (dark) blue (T) 420 automatic transmission, floor shift 430 headrests in the rear 440 tempomat 452 two-tone horn 466 central locking system 481 undershields 504 outside rear view mirror, right, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirror, right, electrically adjustable (l.h.d.) taxi version, f.r.g, and outside rear view mirror on the right 543 sun visor with vanity mirror, illuminated, left and right 570 folding armrest front w202/210 stowage box front with armrest, front folding armrest w202 – housing at front with armrest 588 automatic climate control and electric window lifters (front and rear doors) 592 heat-insulating glass, all-around, heated rear window pane (laminated glass), band filter, green heat-insulating glass all round, heated rear window, laminated safety glass – tinted strip 600 headlamp wiper/washer 621 export license plate (elimination of license plate moulding) 630 ECE warning triangle 673 high-capacity battery Prior to importation, the vehicle was fitted with a 3.8L aluminium V8 (from the 380 SE & SEL), leather upholstery, a gun safe, and a wooden bar and entertainment cabinet. The car passed smog inspection at last registration and has a California title and registration. Carfax report and proof of NHTSA bond release are available. The vehicle includes Mercedes tools in a handy Columbia Savings & Loan tote bag, as well as personal stationary from the original owner. Whether you're a die-hard Benz enthusiast, a fan of the film Wall Street, or a devotee of the 1980's, this unique vehicle is worth a look.
