Beautiful Original Car! My friends can't belive I'm selling this car, because it took me years to find, years to convince the owner to sell it, and plenty of money to make it a reliable driver, but the fact is, I just don't use it as much as I thought I would. It just sits in the garage under a car cover, and hey, I can also use the money. So, she's up for sale. I will endeavor to describe the car as thoroughly and accurately as I can, and have posted as many pictures as possible. STORY: I spotted this car outside of Anaconda, Montana in about 2006 and spent the next two years asking the owner to sell it to me. The story that he conveyed was that it was an original Anaconda car, owned by a woman from 1957 until 1973 (the last oil change door tag is consistent with this) when she sold it to a man who tucked it in the back of his farm impliment dealership until about 2002 or so, when the current owner's son bought it (maybe the impliment dealer died before getting around to it, I don't know), got it running, and then quickly lost interest and left it at his father's house. It seems that all the son did to the car was repaint it in its original black, put new tires on it, and change the fluids. One thing is clear: this car has spent its entire life indoors and out of the sun, because it is in a remarkable state of preservation. For those who don't know, Montana is a semi-arid dry climate and we don't use road salt, so cars tend to last a long time if they're cared for. This Plymouth is truly a gem. FEATURES: The Belvedere was the "top of the line" Plymouth for 1957, so this car has a lot of extra stainless trim on the outside and a fancier interior. Also, it was built with a fantastic combination of 301 V8, pushbutton "Powerflyte" automatic transmission, and perhaps best of all, POWER STEERING. This last feature really makes the car a pleasure to drive. It also has 2-speed wipers, clock (not working), radio (works), and other little niceties. NEW OR REPLACED: Tires (only about 2000 miles on them) Full tune up (cap/rotor/plugs/points/wires/filters/fluids) Battery Brakes (shoes/hardware/master cyl/wheel cyls/drums turned) Exhaust (muffler and tailpipe) Transmission service (fluid/pan cleaning/gasket) Cut-and-sewn carpet Front seat re-upholstered MECHANICAL CONDITION: The car is now in excellent condition mechanically. My goal was to be able to take it on day trips of a few hundred miles, so I put the money into the unseen things that make it safe and reliable. The brakes are pretty much all new, but the rebuilt master cylinder has always been soft and should be replaced. The motor runs smoothly and quietly at idle and high speed, and starts as well in the winter as in the summer. The fuel system is also in great shape, though the gas gauge stopped working about six months ago. The motor stays cool and has never gotten hot. The exhaust is clear with nothing visible. The transmission shifts perfectly and the mechanic reported that the pan was free of material when he replaced the gasket. The power steering works perfectly. Parking brake, heater/defrost, windows, lights, etc all work as they should. INTERIOR: The interior is beautifully preserved. The headliner, with its "starry sky" pattern is in excellent shape. All the rubber seals around the doors and windows are solf and pliable. Even the rope cording around the doors is intact! The carpet is new, as are the floor mats. The door panels are in excellent condition and are pretty fancy with their metalic inserts. All the glass is free of cracks or chips, including the windshield. The original trunk mat is still in place. The front seat had a tear on the driver's side when I got it so I had my upholsterer recover it in the original pattern. SMS sent him material that was one shade lighter, however, and he didn't notice until he got done and put it in. In fact, I didn't notice either until he pointed it out to me, but still, its not exact but could easily be replaced if you're a perfectionist. All in all, the inside is a clean, quiet, and classy cockpit. And if you've never sat in one, the 57-59 Plymouth has the most comfortable seating position/steering wheel angle of any comparable car. This is a great car to DRIVE. EXTERIOR: The exterior shows very well overall - all the stainless steel trim is in excellent condition, and the paint shines up nicely. However, it was an inexpensive repaint and is showing its age. It has numerous minor flaws, and one big flaw. Last summer I foolishly failed to wash off a few overspills of gasoline out of the filler neck, and one day after baking directly in the sun, the fuel pulled the paint up on the left rear quarter panel where the gas spilled over (see photos). So, either you'll want to repaint this panel or repaint the entire car, which shouldn't be a difficult job given its overall condition. There is only one spot of rust that I can see, on the lower right rocker panel (see photo). The wheel covers on the car are 1958 (I prefer them) but the car comes with its original 1957 set as well. Also, I tracked down a full set of the optional "Sportone" trim that would allow you to ad a white insert down the side of the car (see example photo) which I will offer to the winning bidder for $500, and for this price I will also include a set of four extra wheels in case you want to mount a second set of tires. Somewhere I have the "PLYMOUTH" letters for the hood and will try to find these soon. The car is very clean underneath (see photos). OVERALL Overall this is a beautiful, well-preserved, mechanically sound, clean and comfortable car that would make an excellent "driver" now or a perfect "show car" with little effort. You can drive it as-is; she's ready to go! There aren't many this clean and original, so don't miss out on the chance to own a car with this much style and function for so little money. All potential bidders are welcome and encouraged to inspect the car in person. The car is being sold "AS-IS" AND "WHERE-IS" with absolutely no warantees made concerning the vehcile, either expressed or implied. I will be happy to assist loading the car if the buyer sends a shipping service. I will also be happy to answer all questions as quickly as possible - thanks for bidding and good luck! NEW: In response to requests for photos of the underside of the car, I have posted a number at this site: www.photobucket.com/57underside Please go there to see pics of the rocker panels, front wheel wells, general underside, and trunk floor. (I am unable to post any more on ebay). Also, I located the PLYMOUTH letters for the hood and have installed them. Thanks!
