Vehicle Detail
This is an exceptionally good Camry wagon. I searched a long time before I found and bought this one out of Casper, WY. I had a Corolla to drive so I set out to make this one function as new with the intention of making it my personal vehicle for another 150,000 miles. I paid $2,350 for it 4 years ago and put more than $1,500 into it. The work I had done includes a new ignition lock, routine transmission service and timing belt, filters, plugs and wires, 4 wheel alignment, a new power antenna motor, replacing burnt out dash bulbs, repairing a well-hidden vacuum leak, brake pads, muffler, and a pair of good quality all-weather tires. The other two all-weather tires still have about 80% of their tread remaining. During the 4 years I've had it I only drove it 4,000 miles. My needs changed, though. The Corolla I was driving wouldn't wear out and I then I stumbled across a hatchback Yaris with BIG doors. This car doesn't drip any fluid or use oil and appears never to have have leaked. It has been run with Mobil One synthetic motor oil for as far back as I know and, if it was ever smoked in, doesn't smell like it. The constant velocity joints are fine, no clicking or chatter on tight cornering and the rubber boots are good. The upholstery is also good and, of course, it has electronic fuel injection. With all the amenities and safety engineering this is a fairly heavy car for its size which is why it rides and gets around in the snow so well. Driven sedately, it gets roughly 20 mpg around town and about 30 mpg or better on the highway. It is quick, quiet, and comfortable and is equipped with a driver's airbag and seat that features height, lumbar support, and headrest angle adjustments. It also has power mirrors, antenna, locks, front shoulder belts, and windows. In the late '80s Toyota announced a campaign to wrest control of this North American market segment away from Volvo by meeting Volvo's safety standards (5 star US government crash rating) and beating their fit, finish, longevity, fuel economy, and purchase price with the new ( at the time ) Camry. The Camry became America's best selling car and helped make Toyota the world's #1 auto maker. Full disclosure: The antenna is slightly kinked. With the key on it can be pulled up and will return automatically to the stored position when the key is removed but I find it annoying... as if I still listened to the radio. Toyota offers new masts to fit for $45. The struts ( front shocks) are fine but the alignment shop suggests new front springs ( quoted at $85 ea.) and new rubber sway bar bushings. The old sway bar bushings creak and clunk and the front springs sag. Although the body pan is free of rust, there is a small spot of rust-out at the bottom rear of the passenger side front side fender and bubbles of rust in the same area of the driver's side fender. See the photos. The paint on the hood is an inferior repair job, see the pictures. I've never rubbed out or even waxed this car but it looks really good in traffic or from, say, 15 feet away. Finally, my mechanic says the automatic overdrive functions properly but the light indicating that it is locked out sometimes flickers on. This car is located 167 miles north of Denver, a few blocks off I-25, at Wheatland, WY. I'll answer your questions by email or, better, by phone @ 307-322-2127. I've run this ad over the 4th and, for a few days afterward in the hope it will be convenient to out-of-towners. I'll be 150 miles away doing a show over the 4th but a neighbor has agreed to keep the key. A $500 deposit will hold the car but neither the it nor the title change hands without payment in full by cash or cashier's check. There are several notaries in the neighborhood. On Jul-05-11 at 10:20:32 PDT, seller added the following information:I'm surprised no one has called about this item. I can be very accommodating about when you accept delivery ( by which I mean pick up the car unless you want me to deliver it to you ) and even be flexible about when you make payment in full ( after the initial $500 deposit and before the title and vehicle are exchanged). Although I had originally established a reserve price of $1,750, I'm sick of "learning" eBay. When this sale closes the car goes to the high bidder, regardless of the price. My cell, again, is 307-322-2127.On Jul-05-11 at 18:23:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Damn! The previous high bidder asked whether the car can be relied upon to make a 1,300 mile trip to his home. There hasn't been a single action here that has been hassle-free including my response to him which apparently did not appear here as it was supposed to. The answer is "Yes". The car is 100% except for the deficiencies I want to great lengths to tell you about. I really did buy it because it is solid and went to some lengths to prepare for a lot more reliable driving across vast open spaces. Also, no matter how many times I unclick it, eBay keeps describing the car as having a sliding sunroof which it does not.
