Vehicle Detail
You've seen this jeep listed before - This time it has to sell! Low price - No Reserve! Good luck! Very Rare Kaiser CJ5 Jeep. 83:1 Crawl ratio - A real jeep! This jeep has been in my family since it was purchased new 40+ years ago and has provided tons of great trail & highway fun over the years! This jeep is in GREAT shape and ready for more adventures with a new owner! I've added lots of features to make it a real "rock crawler" but I also made sure to retain the original look and feel of the vehicle. Here are some of the many great features you will enjoy as the new owner (most with less than 500 road/trail miles on them): 1. CJ5 Jeep, Factory equiped V6 Buick Dauntless 225 engine. The mileage listed is not a roll-over on the engine, it was replaced (along with the speedometer) with a refurbished factory original about 10 years after we bought it. The heads have been reworked to add hardened valves and seats. 2. SM420 Chevy truck transmission. I added this after a grueling run through the Rubicon Trail a few years back with the original A14 transmission! 3. TeraLow reduction gears added to the transfer case as part of the crawl ratio improvement. 4. AGR - Super Box 2 Power Steering with Flaming River steering gear. Another Rubicon Trail experience add-on... 5. ARB Air Locker added to original 30 spline Dana 44 rearend (3.73). All new seals and gaskets. 6. PowerTrax Lock-Right automatic locker added to original Dana 27 frontend. All new seals and gaskets. 7. Under carriage armor. Axle u-bolt skid plates and a custom 1/4" steel, frame mounted transmission and transfer case shield (strong enough to hold all 4 wheels off the ground on an obstacle - I've done it!) 8. Dual Electric fans mounted on a new 3 core radiator. These come in real handy when crawling slowly as a result of the 83:1 drive train ratio. 9. Front tow bar and updated 2" receiver hitch. Electrically setup for towing using the jeeps lights and signals. 10. Large luggage rack with shovel, hi-lift jack and jerry can holders. 11. Corner and rocker guards. These are not the wimpy aluminum versions you find on most jeeps, these are 1/4" diamond plate steel! 12. Lots of other updates including new: Bearings and seals for all wheels, Engine mounts, Body mounts, Master and slave cylinders and brake shoes, steering gear including tie rod ends, clutch, K&N air filter (although I still have the original oil bath air filter), clutch cable, speedometer cable, and on and on. I have tons of receipts for all parts purchased - these can be really helpful to the new owner when looking for more parts down the road. 13. Lots of extra parts: Fuel pump, filters, hoses, repair books, the original owners manual, etc, etc. Everything I have goes with the jeep... Along with all the pluses outlined above, it is fair to let you know what you can expect as minuses. Realizing that this is a 40+ year old vehicle is a good first step but you should also be aware of the following specific items that you may or may not want to address as the new owner: 1. The original front bumper is bent and could/should be replaced. I hit a rock out on the trail and haven't worried about "fixing" it since I would probably just bend it again! 2. The paint is faded and scratched and there are a few very minor dings here and there. It's old and it's a jeep that I actually take off-road so this was perfect for me - You may want to repaint it. There is rust in various areas (it is 40 years old after all) but there is NO rust-through anywhere! It spent most of its life in dry, arid AZ. 3. The power steering pump bracket could stand to be redone. I welded up a "temporary" bracket that has worked well so I just left it in place. More of an aesthetic, than a necessity. 4. The original horn button does not work BUT I added one to the instument panel. Same for the starter button. Both work great. 5. Windshield (original) has a crack running from top to bottom in the center. Not in your normal viewing area for the driver or passenger.
