Vehicle Detail
2000 Chevy Metro the last year of the hatchback! I am re-listing this car because it came very close but didn't meet my reserve. Now No Reserve!I get over 50 mpg when driving 60-65 mph. That's on average well over 500 miles per 10 gallon tank of gas. My best tank was 680 miles!! Take that hybrids! This is the holy grail of the high gas mileage Metros. It is 3 cylinders, no power steering, no A/C and has been XFI'D to top it off!! Why would you want a 4cyl auto trans Metro that gets 35 mpg's? They are all economical and as reliable as a Honda, but this one is special. I bought a verified MS 4th & 5th vin 1992 Geo Metro XFI with around 125000 miles that had no indication anything was ever opened up before I performed the cam and transmission transplant about a year ago. The poor 92 XFI failed its smog check for a egr related problem the roof was rusting through and the body was dented up pretty bad, otherwise I might have just kept it. I combined the best of both worlds: Great gas mileage and air bags. This 2000 Metro however passes smog with flying colors! The body has some minor dents and scratches overall still in good shape and has NO RUST AT ALL! I took a picture of the headliner that is coming down, but that can be spray glued back pretty easily. The engine runs strong with no unusual noises. The car drives great, no shakes and doesn't pull. The transmission shifts through all the gears with no problems. CV shafts and boots are in great shape also. I have only used synthetic oil with a Mobil 1 oil filter and syncromesh transmission fluid since I have owned the car. I have removed all the A/C related components to get better mpg's. I don't think this car should have had A/C in the first place. I do not have any of the A/C components. I made rear wheel skirts, a front grill block, also removed the mirrors and one wiper arm for better aerodynamics. All the aero mods and removing the A/C has increased the mpg's by 4-5. the cam and trans another 10 mpg. All the fluids were changed a few months ago along with cap, rotor NGK spark plugs and a new timing belt with tensioner pully. I put front & rear struts & lowered the car about 2" all the way around about 9 months ago, and had the windows tinted around the same time. Front brakes and tires are about 80% I should have put a clutch in it when I had the transmission out but I didn't. The clutch kit is only about $100 and takes 4-5 hrs in your driveway. It still has approx 25% of its life left, so unless you don't know how to drive a stick it should last a while. I have the mirrors and wiper arm if you want them back on, let me know I will do it before you pick it up, I can also take the skirts and grill block off if you want. I also cant find the spare tire and jack, if I cant find it by auction end I will credit $50 for replacement. I will also check with the local junk yard for a replacement. This was mostly a project that I was going to build a boat tail and under body pan for to try to get it to 70 mpg at 65-70 mph but just had a baby and don't have the time to finish. I hope whoever wins this great low mileage car will appreciate it for what it is and can be. I have worked in the automotive field for almost 20 years, hold 3 ASE certifications and have a CA smog licence. I personally did all the work on the car, with a full shop worth of tools and equipment. I don't think there is an easier car to work on. I bought the car from a customer of mine, that was technically the first owner. It was her car but her moms name was on the title when the car was in Florida. When she registered the car in ca it obviously recorded as the #2 owner. I know the winning bidder will be happy with this car! I welcome anyone who lives close to come and take it for a test drive. I will fill the gas tank before you pick it up!! I can also deliver the car within 100 miles. These cars were built by Suzuki and sold as NameplateMarketBody1995–2001Suzuki SwiftN.
