Vehicle Detail
This is a wonderful car is in excellent shape. If you are looking for a solid car for a restoration project, this is an ideal specimen. This is my Grandmother's car, purchased new in 1970 in sunny Cupertino, CA. She purchased it to drive 3 miles a day to and from work at Macy's. It has 29,000 original miles. The upholstery was replaced in 1986 as a birthday surprise. In 1989 she was involved in a minor accident which resulted in a creased front fender. This was replaced with OEM parts and is the only physical damage in the car's history. In the photo gallery (below) notice the original keys, sales invoice, original window sticker, and owners manual. This car has 25 years of Volkswagen Dealership service records in the glove box. It was meticulously maintained by my Grandfather until 1999. It has been sitting in storage ever since. After it was transported to Seattle in 2009, it was inspected and repaired by a well known local Bug shop. They rebuilt the front suspension, tuned the engine, freshened the brakes, and replaced the battery and two fuel lines. It's running great today. The doors still close with an air-tight thud. All door and window seals are intact. The outside front and rear window seals have cracks from the sun. The left hand side view mirror (the glass part only) was broken during transit from California. No external rust damage in the body. The insides of each bumper have surface rust. Beneath the seat in the battery compartment, there is a half-dollar sized rust hole from the battery gasses. This opening is covered by the edge of the battery tray. It was garaged daily in California until 2009, where it was placed in storage in Seattle WA. More pictures of the car are available here: http://gallery.me.com/dave.mackey#100398 Here is a video of the car running: http://gallery.me.com/dave.mackey#100398/IMG_0201 I would be happy to answer any questions. Good luck!On Jun-12-11 at 15:30:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Several people have contacted me for test drives. If you're in the greater Seattle area, please contact me to arrange one. Two bidders have driven the car and each has bid again after the test drive. I think the car shows better in person than my online pictures! I reserve the right to end this auction early. Good luck!
