Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for auction is a 1935 Chevy truck.titled as a 1-ton, but most likely it is a 1 1/2 ton by the fact of being a dually with a 2-speed rear end. Though the truck is in pretty decent shape considering it is 76 years old, it will need a major restoration to put it back in show condition. We are too back-logged in our shop to have time for it. When we got it, the previous owner had painted it, probably home spray gun style to have it look nice for a yard ornament.. It is a solid old truck from out West with little to no rust and would be a perfect restoration candidate. We did take time to check it out mechanically, curious if the running gear functions. We found the engine had a broken lifter and bent push rod. We feel the cam needs replacement which is simple on these tough old straight 6 Chevy engines from the next generation. The engine is a 1960 235 cubic inch Chevrolet L-6, the block casting number is 3769716. We feel the cam is worn down because the fuel pump lobe won't run the pump, which we tested manually to confirm it is good. Also, the bad lifter and push rod we replaced in cylinder #6 is not showing full lift with the tappet adjusted as far as we dared go. Evidently someone not knowing what they were doing had over tightened it in the past. The rocker arm has very little movement. We really don't want to take time to replace the cam, but were we going to keep the truck, that is the first thing we would do. From all sounds and signs we have seen, this could be a really good engine. After we got it running, it actually ran with no blow by and bearing noise, confirming it is a decent engine. We were glad to get it running as we were curious and anxious to check out the transmission, clutch and rear end. It was really a hoot of fun in getting the old girl running and taking it for a little test drive. We were really happy to determine everything else in the drive train worked great. Unless someone wants a 100% original engine, this engine is certainly worth restoring. The odometer shows 57,857 miles. The engine starts and the truck drives and shifts gears, you can see a video of the truck driving on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMVkEuwsFaE. The radiator has a severe leak, which must be repaired. It looks to be at the tank joint to the core, which is good.. Mechanical brakes function, but tend to stick from not being used, which will be an easy task to lube and free up. The seats are structurally good and the upholstery is pretty danged good for this old a truck.. The floor boards are completely gone, which will be a simple task as they were wood. Hood and grill are in good shape. Windshield and passenger door glass has recently been replaced, but passenger door glass is not functioning. Rear and drivers door glass is missing. Dash is complete and gauges are in very good shape. There is some new wiring in the truck. There is widely scattered minor body damage on the truck and we have tried to take pictures of all the damage. Fortunately, all of the body panels are present and repairable. Somebody did a cobble job of attempting to weld the typical cracked fenders ages ago. A good body man at least has a decent starting point in restoring all the panels. We did not see any evidence whatsoever of bondo. If we had time to do a show quality restoration, we would not hesitate to put this in our shop. No doubt, a good bit of body work will be needed, but this is a solid foundation to start with. It is now a cab and chassis as the original all wood flat bed was long gone when we got the truck. The dual fuel tanks are antique drums which are pretty cool looking, but far from original (I think?). We have given every detail we can think of in providing an absolutely accurate description. However, please feel free to ask any questions if we have forgot to answer any questions you may have. The truck is located in Hamilton, MT and has a clear title.
