Vehicle Detail
1963 GRAND SPORT CORVETTE In 1963 Chevy built 5 special lightweight, high-powered Corvette race cars specifically to defeat the Ford Cobra on the road racing circuit. They were successful! These five cars still exist and have been restored. Serial number 003 changed hands a few years ago for more than $5 million. The car for sale here was built from scratch in 2005 by an individual craftsman as a Grand Sport resto-mod. Thus the frame, body and interior are Grand Sport as built by D&D Corvette while the drive train, suspension and running gear are modern Chevy/Corvette parts. The car is configured as it raced in 1965 with a big block Chevy ZZ502( 500hp; 569 ft-lbs) fed by Edelbrock dual quads(1300 cfm). Trans is a ZF 6-speed. Differential is a Dana 44 with 3.55 gears. Suspension, power steering, and power brakes are C4 Corvette with Aldan coil-over shocks. Cooling is via a Griffen aluminum radiator with dual 10-inch fans. Fuel tank is a 20 gallon aluminum fuel cell. Wheels are 11.5X17 PS Engineering knock-offs. Paint is C4 Corvette Medium Quasar Blue. All the emblems and numbers on this car are PAINTED using custom-made stencils and an airbrush. There are no decals on the car. With several coats of clear on top of the paint, you can wash and wax all you want without damage. This is an awesome feature of this car. I am the original owner of the car. It is titled and registered as a 1963 vehicle. It is street legal and it is a blast to drive. Very loud and very fast. I don't have the skills to race it so I don't know how fast it really is. Would need skills and racing tires to find out. It is a terrific show car and that is how I have enjoyed it. It has won many awards. My favorites are two Celebrity Choices at the annual Corvette Funfest in downstate Illinois and a Best In Show award last summer against 76 other show-quality Corvettes at the annual Chicagoland Corvette Show. This car draws a crowd wherever it goes! The car is in excellent condition in every way. The cost of a turnkey Grand Sport with a big block is around $120,000. Since my car is used and today's market is depressed, I settled on $79,900 as a fair price. If you have another number in mind, feel free to make me an offer and I will certainly consider it. I am not interested in a trade. Thanks for your consideration.
