I like 3rg Gen Formula 350s. I also like carburetors. But Pontiac never made a 3rg Gen carbureted Formula 350s. So I made one myself. This is a 1987 Pontiac Formula with T-Tops and cold A/C. The car had 258,000 miles on it when I started the rebuild. The rebuild has been well documented with photos (there are more photos) and I have all receipts. The original engine was an L03 305 with a computer controlled carburetor. The 1987 Formula was the last year GM offered an F-Body with a carburetor. I replaced the engine with a Blueprint Engines 355. I left the computer and harness in place but removed all sensors and replaced computer controlled parts with non computer controlled parts. It would take too long to explain everything I did to the car, so the first list are the main specs of the car. The second list are all the parts and part numbers purchased during the rebuild. Any part I replaced got replaced by a higher quality part than was originally on the car. It has a 385hp, 405tq engine. The original 82-92 Firebirds and Camaros typically had about 190hp, very weak. The suspension is tighter than stock and rides on rails. Sure you could spend half the money and get another beautiful all stock Firebird on eBay. But this one will run circles around them and turn more heads. I always get looks and comments when I drive this car. There are only two things I didn't do, One, I didn't paint the engine compartment. At the time I had the engine put in I wasn't planning on doing so much with the car, so I didn't bother. Two, the headliner isn't the greatest. It looks ok but could be replaced. The original speedometer for this car went up to 80mph. I replaced it with one from another Formula I had that went to 140mph. As mentioned before there were 258,000 miles on this car when I got it. I put the other speedometer in when the engine was put in and the rebuild started. The new odometer read 180,650 when put in. It now reads 190,600 The engine had a 2.5 year / 3000 mile warranty and I never had to use it. At this point the car has 10,000 miles on all the new parts. I drive it about once a week, mainly just to run to the store. I just got a promotion at my job and just don't have to spend on my car anymore. My job is my hobby now.
