Vehicle Detail
No Reserve auction. Solid, original drive line, West Kentucky car. Air conditioned Bonneville two door hardtop. I bought this car 25 years ago and drove it home. It has been set outside up on blocks since that time. I started the engine and yard drove it around the farm. I bypassed the poorly working fuel pump to avoid introducing varnish-laden gas into the cylinders. I had years earlier filled the cylinders with oil so the car cranked right over once a working starter was installed. The original 389 4 bc engine runs, but is misfiring on at least one (1) cylinder. The radiator okay, not leaking and cools the engine. The transmission is the original TH 400; it engages and moves the car. No attempt made to restore the brakes. Based on 50 years of old car experience, I notice no major rust problems on car. The car was nearly rust-free in 1985 and has been kept off the ground on blocks. The paint is original and is severely weathered. The windshield and back glass need removed and rust repaired. The trunk floor has rust in the body mount areas, but otherwise solid. No rust in the trunk seal lip. See detail photos for rust in the rear quarter, right. The left rear quarter panel was replaced and the weld line needs reworked. There is some severe pitting on the roof as in the pictures. I removed the carpet from this car before it was parked. The floors are generally solid. Water has leaked in around the rear glass and ruined the package tray and damaged the rear seat. The dash has not been cut out for a non-factory radio. Oil was sprayed on the dash chrome 25 years ago and it will clean up to appear much nicer than photos show. The headliner is ruined. The tires hold air. This 1966 Bonneville could make you proud if given the time and attention it deserves. Anybody can sand spray paint. This will make a huge difference to the appearance of this solid desirable hardtop. The car is in far southern Illinois. We will store it for free for 30 days after purchase. $250 non-refundable deposit due within 36 hours of auction end. Thanks for looking and bidding, Ron and Clara.
