Vehicle Detail

Have you always wanted a rare, classic convertible, but just couldn't afford it? Or, wanted a sweet project car, but your wife doesn't want a junker in the driveway? Your wait is over... For your consideration - with low reserve - is my 1965 Eldorado Convertible Project. Only 2,250 produced in '65, the Fleetwood Eldorado was the flagship of the Cadillac line. I purchased this car locally in 2007, and drove it home. Since then, I've puttered around on it but have never finished it. I've done two other cars since buying it, and with three kids can't really justify the time / $ required to finish. Unlike most junk on ebay, this car has is well on it's way to becoming the classic you've always wanted - just check out the photos. But, don't let the good looks fool you, there are still many hours of project work to get this car roadworthy and fully returned to it's former glory. When purchased, this car was a running / driving vehicle; tired but solid (see last three photos - pre-paint job). No rust on body, short of some discovered underneath rocker molding on front fender, which was replaced with a solid fender from a '65 Fleetwood. Have not had on the road since it was disassembled for paint, so it's been sitting in my garage since 2008 short of a few trips here and there. About the car: - Loaded with Cad options, including power windows, power seat, power antenna, AM/FM stereo, factory cruise, power trunk - 429 V8 Cad engine and Turbo 400 trans. Original to my knowledge. - Body media blasted, epoxy primered, blocked and finished with a basecoat / clear coat modern paint similar to period correct Firemist Red (actual color is Dodge Inferno Red Crystal Pearl - really pops in the sun) - Minor floor rust repaired with fiberglass and coated with POR-15. Trunk coated with POR 15. - Top frame cleaned / painted; new top installed. - New trunk seal, door seal, and most weather stripping either installed or included - $2,500 Kesley Hayes type wire wheels + new whitewalls. Original caps (and rims if you want) included. - Original chrome and stainless in fair condition. Most stainless has been cleaned up; chrome has some pitting but looks good. See the photos and judge for yourself. - Manifolds decked and new exhaust installed w/Magnaflow muffler. - Interior out of car (see photos). - Rare NON-AC Eldo (pacific northwest car). This is a plus in my book as I am not a fan of restoring the 60's Climate Control systems! - Undercarriage is dirty (a true barn/farm find) with light surface rust, but in good shape. No salted roads here. What needs to be done: As a partially finished project, cannot accurately list every nut and bolt item here but here are highlights of known projects and condition - Engine starts and runs smoothly, but has some blue smoke. Rings? Sitting too long? As I said, I haven't driven it much for years, but plan on some engine work if it doesn't go away. - Something squeals when you rev it - power steering pump? It's pretty loud, not sure what it is. - Brakes worked great before media blasted, but shoes were gummed up after being media blasted and are now super touchy. So new shoes & turn the drums. - Transmission leaks. All over my floor. Of course it's been sitting for a long time, but something there needs to be addressed. May just be the pan seal. - Interior needs to be redone. Somewhere along the line, the interior was converted from the original saddle color to white (excluding the dash). As the seat covers are in decent condition, I bought some color-matched dye and re-dyed the back seats; never got to the front. Door panels will need to be rebuilt as the cardboard is warped, and all recovered / reinstalled. - I believe all window motors work, but are slow, and passenger side glass in door is out of alignment with track. Currently, the under-carpet harnesses are out so I can't operate. - Various trim pieces have pitting and are in 46 year old condition. Stuff included with the car: - All major trim, short of Eldorado fender letters, is included. Drivers side trim is mostly off the car, and will need to be buffed and some new clips to finish. The fender letters are available as repops, I bought a set as the originals did not survive being removed for paint, but I can't find them anymore. That is not a guarantee that every little piece is there, but all the main pieces are to my knowledge. - New carpet kit - currently loose in car - Correct impossible to find Eldo trim panels for above rear bumper (need to be cleaned up), car inherited deville panels at some point. - Compressor for auto-level ride included; back shocks replaced with standard air-adjustable shocks. - All interior screws, lamps, etc. that I have will be included. It was all there when I started, and should still be there - no guarantees. With the various parts I've collected, you'll probably get two of many things. To be clear, this is a PROJECT CAR and will certainly have some surprises as you get into these projects - they always do. But I've tried to list everything I can think of reasonably in this space. Car is located within 15 minutes of Seattle-Tacoma International airport if you would like to come look at it, or have someone look at it for you. If you have questions, please ask. Be patient for responses over the holiday weekend, and I'm traveling for business much of next week.. but I will respond. LOW RESERVE! SO, BID HIGH AND BID OFTEN! LIGHT UP A CIGAR, DROP THE TOP, AND GET YOUR CADILLAC ON!!! Thanks and good luck - Dan On May-27-11 at 14:41:38 PDT, seller added the following information: On May-30-11 at 11:40:29 PDT, seller added the following information: On May-30-11 at 12:12:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Second video added has sound on the second half so you can hear it run, screwed up on the first one To answer some bidder questions: What's the reserve? A small pile of cash :). Seriously, much less than I have into it, that's for sure. Bid to your comfort level. The car is not advertised elsewhere at this time. What's the buy it now price? There is no buy it now price, don't really know what it's worth... hence the auction. Options? Power seat, power windows, tilt / telescope wheel, power antenna, factory AM/FM, factory cruise control, power trunk release, twilight sentinel (headlight delay), plus eldo standard options (power vent windows, eldo horn, rear suspension level control (removed but compressor included, would need new shocks and air lines) Original Color? Jade Firemist (Green). But it was red when I got it, and I stuck with that. Driveability? As you can see, it runs and drives but has not been on the road short of being shuffled around for several years. If you live in the area and are adventurous, you could probably drive it home... but the brakes are annoyingly touchy, and it really should be gone through before venturing on a trip of any distance. Does the power top work? Yes. One of the latches requires some fiddling to get it to latch. Thanks - Dan
