Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1932 Ford Pickup, chopped and channeled with a 1953 hemi (241ci - baby hemi). It was built as an homage to the Billy Shine truck - "Bare Nekid" which is actually a 1934, but it's close enough. This truck was featured in the May 2009 Ol' Skool Rodz magazine. I have four or five copies that I will give to the buyer. There's quite a bit to list so here goes: The 1953 Hemi is from a Dodge Desoto. It was the first year of the Hemi's. It has been rebuilt to factory spec and then three Stromberg 97 carbs sit on top. The center carbs does leak a little from the needle valve but that's common with Stromberg's and doesn't create any issues. It runs very well and does not over heat. I've had it on the road on the hottest of days with no issues whatsoever. The Griffin Radiator is over kill but still looks cool through the front. The exhausts are wrapped with heat wrap (I think it looks cool) and they each have a motorcycle baffle, but it's still as loud as four v-twin motorcycles. They can hear you coming in this thing. The trans is a 700R/4. It slips in and out of over-drive when it's cold, but a good warm up before putting it on the road solves that problem. An MSD ignition system fills the bill nicely. The rear Axle is a 1940 Ford and has been converted from a torque-tube to dive shaft set up. The cab is the original cab and has pitting from sitting in a barn for all those years. I left the pitting under the paint (there is NO RUST) because I think it gives the truck character. Also, the welds from the top chop can be seen just as they did it way back when. If you were going to build a hot rod in 1953, it would look like this truck. The bed is an after market but you'd only know that by the square top rail instead of the stock rolled rails. It fits the truck like a glove. The tail lights are 50's vintage Cadillac. The brakes are 1940 Ford "Juice" brakes (drums). They work just like they did in 1940......kind of. You still need to give yourself some extra distance to stop. The shock absorbers are from a 50's vintage MG - Armstrong rebuildable oil lever-shocks. They just look cool. The rear end has a pan-hard bar. There is a slight leak from the axle housing where the pan-hard bar bolts up, but it's not serious. The bed was left as an "open-view" which is very cool. You can see the rear end and all the components. The Fuel Tank is a stainless "medical" style tank with a vintage airplane style cap. The battery can be seen as well. The frame was computer designed, "Zee'd", and built with tubing, not channel. All of the cross members are from the 1932 frame. The inside of the cab was done in the spirit of the 50's hot rods - the bare minimum to get you down the street. The seat was covered with a Mexican blanket (sometimes they used orange crates) and the gauges are new/rebuilt and in the "original dash". Here's a list of the "original equipment" incorporated into this build: Steering WheelWindshieldFrame Cross-membersRear Suspension / Drilled out Wish-Bones Front Axle (drilled out) and Suspension / Wish-BonesRadiator Grill (from a Commercial Pick-Up of that year)Hub Caps & Trim Rings (Stainless)Interior and Exterior Door Handles and Hinges (and driver's side mirror) Now for the particulars.
