Vehicle Detail
1974 Volkswagen Things (Beach Buggy) I am selling my Thing. I listed it on here a while back when we were going to move; however, the move got delayed and since I wasn't getting offered what I wanted, I just decided to keep it for a while. In that time I have been doing some work on it :-) I ran a new electrical system throughout (the previous one was all but non-existent) She is now street legal. Running Lights (Front and Rear), High Beams, All Blinkers Front and Back, Both Brake Lights, and Horn. I also added two 12V outlets in the front dash console as well as additional off road lighting. I made a custom (removable) luggage rack (4'x8') with six tie-down cleats- carries two spare tires, firewood, cooler, poles, tackle boxes, and anything else you care to take for your weekend at the beach. Also has a Fabric-Shield Rain/Sun Barrier on the underside to keep the elements off of the interior. IT'S RUNNING NOW. Before it ran only when generously coaxed and persuaded. 5 gal. bucket and a few Saturdays spent hunched over the back end and she idles like a champ. New fuel filter. New starter. Tune-Up. Carb Cleaning... she runs smooth now. Comes With:-Two Spare Tires/Road Tires (For the drive TO the sand you may want to save some rubber and gas and pull the Micky Thompsons off the back)- Original Jack- Tow Bar and Lights (Tow behind the RV or Truck to the beach, trails, or wherever)- Complete Parts Manual with Wiring Diagram- Extra Headlight- Extra Blinker Cover (Front)- Extra Wheel Bearing, Clutch Cable, and Belt (The essential quick repair parts) Theres a couple extra bulbs and various fuses in the dash console as well) The Bad News:The alternator is on it's way out. Currently it is only pushing between 9 and 11 volts. More than enough to power systems and cylinders when driving. However, if I make a few too many short trips, just around town, the battery will eventually loose charge and she'll need a jump. However, I drove it to my friends place on the river the other weekend- 50 miles one way- and had no problems. So sometimes you just need to make sure you drive it a little to charge the battery completely. Or, go ahead and replace the alternator and not worry about it at all. Also, the mileage on the odometer is from who knows when and hasn't changed since I had it. Your guess is as good as mine to actual mileage- I just know she runs great and I keep the oil strainer cleaned. And I've decided that if you don't haggle me on the starting bid too much, I'll leave my hand-made cyprus VW emblem on the luggage rack :-) Other than all this... look at the pictures, they should answer most your questions. But if you have any additional questions please contact me via email (gtplante@gmail.com). This is my wife's ebay account and she won't be able to help you much with any Thing questions, so, again, please direct any questions to my email. Happy Bidding!!
