Vehicle Detail
1962 Chevrolet Corvette This 1962 Corvette is an amazing find. Every Corvette buyer is looking for that one car that has everything they want: NCRS awards, Correct Components, Ownership History, and Service Records. This one has all of that plus it is a fantastic driving car as well. She was a Second Flight Award Winner (93 Points) at the NCRS Williamsburg VA Eastern Regionals July 6th 1984 and Top Flight Award Winner (97 Points) 7/30/85 at the NCRS Boston, MA event. The Boston award is even signed by Zora Duntov! This 5 owner car was bought new at Kelly Chevrolet in Cazenovia, NY by George Metzler of Morrisville NY. It then went into the hands of Larry Porter of Syracuse NY and then to Gordon Boncke of Rochester NY in October 1978. Gordon was the person who did the restoration work on the car and received all the awards for it. I do not have the 4th owners information on hand. The car was sold to its current owner in October 1994 and has been in his care ever since. This is a very solid car that will make for a fantastic touring car as it is in great mechanical condition and appears to be well sorted. The body is in very nice condition. From May 1983 to May 1984 the car was taking off the road to be restored. The body was stripped and professionally repainted. New window guides and weather stripping were installed after the paint was done. The bumpers, taillights, parking lights, and other chrome pieces were replated. The bodylines seem to be as good as factory. The glass windshield has some wiper scratches. The seal has some cracking. The chrome has held up very well and still appears almost show quality. Since its last NCRS showing in 1985, it was driven and enjoyed. The paint still shines nicely but is showing the normal patina consistent for a car that was restored 27 years ago. The interior is in nice condition, possibly original. The carpet is in nice shape and appears to have been replaced at some point, or it’s really held up well for an original. The door panels appear to be original and in nice shape. The lower carpet bottoms are slightly discolored. The bucket seats are still in nice shape. The original dash pad is still in good condition. The original Wonderbar Radio was removed and replaced by an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette stereo. The original radio is still with the car and included with the sale. The convertible top bows were overhauled in 1984 with a newer soft top still showing nicely. This car has numerous original components and I scanned in the sheet provided by the owner with all the part numbers so you can check them yourself. The numbers matching 327/250hp engine was recently rebuilt to stock specs and has approximately 500 miles on it since it was done. She features hardened valve seats to run on today’s unleaded fuel. The engine runs amazingly well. The T-10 4-speed transmission was overhauled in 1979. The third member was rebuilt also in 1979 using all GM parts. She has manual steering and manual brakes. The king pins were redone in 1977 and the front end still feels tight. The suspension rides very nicely and she tracks straight down the road perfectly. It stops with ease and straight with no pulling to the left or right. She rolls on radial white wall tires for supreme ride qualities. Overall this is a wonderful car that was NCRS judged to the highest standard and then used properly over the last 27 years showing the right patina you would expect a solid useable car will have. She is well sorted, has the right components, has ownership history, maintenance history, and an overall nice appearance. She drives exceptionally well and I do not doubt you will be able to take this on the New England 1000, Texas 1000 or Mountain Mille with confidence and reliability. She looks like a very honest classic Corvette and is everything you want in a drivable collector car. You know you want it, just hit the “Buy it Now”. DON’T PASS THIS ONE BY!
