Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is my '55 Studebaker Champion 16G6-F4 with the '57 face! I know, it's weird but it was the only thing I could do at the time. This car was going to the recycler due to rust and neglect so I used the front of a '57 parts car I had, replacing the original rusted face and bent up hood. The frame was not rusty. This is a standard shift tranny with working overdrive (4th gear) and I would not hesitate to drive this car cross-country. The updated front seats are plenty comfy and I'm 6'4". With five Studebakers in the barn, she doesn't get out often enough. This is an amateur restoration. I have LOTS of receipts and a clear Washington state title. Included is a “Double Hooks” Club device for the steering wheel I use good oil with ZDDPlus and just changed it. Redline MTL in the tranny. Here's the good: Body-off, frame cleaned and painted - new bushings & tie rod ends, sway bar bushings and mounts all replaced. Engine rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, hardened seats. Belt and all hoses replaced & 3-speed OD tranny professionally serviced. Fresh clutch & release bearing and flywheel resurfaced. Using a Motocraft 2-barrel carb with adapter from Clifford Engineering. Using PerTronix ignition & Flame Thrower coil. Radiator professionally cleaned & tested. New exhaust system from front flange to tailpipe. New brake shoes, lines, hoses, wheel cylinders & bearings. Added brake safety with Turner Brake's bracket holding a dual master cylinder…also installed a NOS hill holder. Standby electric fuel pump I use for priming after sitting weeks without being driven. Rear axle professionally serviced & new u-joints. Leaf springs and bushings replaced with new set. Blower and wiper motors replaced with system on 12 volts now with alternator. Using aftermarket 12v gauges in cluster under dash. Speedometer serviced and restarted at all zeros. New floor pans from Classic Enterprises. New rubber used in front, back and wings, also new window channels. Upholstry, carpet and headliner all fresh & front bumper was re-chromed by Allied Plating of Spokane, WA. Radio is AM-FM-cassette from Custom Autosound. You'll love the ahh-oogah horn and I added windshield squirters from a junkyard car, putting the button next to the wiper switch. Third brake light on the package shelf for added safety. Here's the bad & ugly: My paint job is atrocious. It needs a repaint by someone who knows what they’re doing! Still a few squeaks, drips and rattles…the car and me! Needs door sills and one piece of driver's door trim. A little clutch chatter noticeable, not bad. I got the car without an engine and transmission. Friends gave me enough parts to build a complete engine that now has 2,830 miles on the clock. According to my oil pressure gauge, she runs about 40 lbs underway. Smooth running, no funky noises. If you live nearby, come see and drive it. Live far? Have someone come check it over. Shoot me any questions. Remember, this is an amateur job and I’ve probably put more into this car than it might be worth as a collector’s item. But as a daily driver it’s certainly worth my reserve.
