Vehicle Detail
Shown here is my last collector car, my 1978 Silver Anniversary L-82 4 Speed Corvette. This extremely clean Corvette has just 28,600 miles on it now. I purchased the car for my wife and I to drive in 2003 with just 23,000 miles on it. My wife has passed away, so I can let the car go now. Since I have owned the car, it has never been driven in the rain. Maybe caught once or twice in a sprinkle, but not intentionally. Questions of the weatherstrip has come up also. All of the weatherstrip I believe to be originals. All are still soft and in excellent shape, including the T-top seals. I don't hose the car down to wash it. It gets a sponge bath! Chamois dried and covered up again. Since I live in Ohio, it never sees any bad weather. In the winter it is covered and kept in my four car, heated garage on the storage lift. The underside pictures show how the climate has kept it so well preserved. Many pictures available, I will put up as many as I can. We bought this car to drive, and that is exactly what we did, drive it! The bottom is in excellent shape for a 32 year old Corvette. Most of the frame has the original black paint still showing with minimal surface rust only. Under hood has been cleaned and detailed, but dusty as we did drive it when nice out. The paint was redone in 2004 with all new GM emblems installed, all new lenses including all of the side markers as well as all four tail lights. Door handles are new GM also. Last year the front seats were recovered in correct leather and vinyl. The steering wheel was also recovered in fresh leather. The rest of the interior is all original to my knowledge. I bought this car due to its extremely low mileage and exceptional overall condition. Also last year the car got a fresh set of correct size 255-60-15 Goodyear GT II radials on a set of reproduction chrome wheels. I was getting a little squeamish driving the 31 year old original tires! Those original outline white letter Goodyear GT Radials on the original rims also go to the winning bidder. The L-82 is a blast to drive as a Corvette should be, with a 4 speed manual transmission. Among all of the options are power windows, power door locks, tilt-teloscopic steering wheel, intermittent wipers, cold factory air conditioning with R12 still in it. New owner will also receive 6 cans as spares to keep it R12 cold! The car was missing the original radio when I purchased it, so the only incorrect interior item is the newer type Delco ETR AM/FM/Cassette with four speakers. The original antenna has been replaced with a GM/Delco power antenna also. New battery last summer also. A new GM/Delco clutch set was installed in 2004 also when the car was getting its light makeover. The original carburator was rebuilt as well as all new hoses, belts, fan clutch, snorkel hoses, and a few new A/C components. All accessories and gages work to my knowledge. I just drove the car today for the first time this year and saw nothing unusual. The previous owner had all the brakes redone with the stainless calipers and new pads all the way around. A new GM shifter was also installed by the former owner. I have installed new Delco shocks, all new ignition sytem parts, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, etc. a few years ago. The car sat for two years as my wife was ill, so I just started driving it again last summer. The original exhaust was long gone when I purchased the car. A muffler shop dual exhaust had to go! I purchased a Corvette Central 1974 L-82 2 1/2" dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers that is shown under the car now. Other than the exhaust, the underside appears to be all original. I just wanted everyone to know about the windshield I had forgotten about. There is a crack running horizontally in the black shaded area below the clear portion of the glass. I forgot about it since it was there when I purchased the car and has never been an issue. It is an original windshield and didn't want to change it to an aftermarket replacement. The glass roof panels were also on the car when I bought it. To my knowledge, 1978 Corvettes did not come with these with the exception of the Indy Pace Car. They were obviously added later, but were on the car when I purchased it. Much nicer than the solid fiberglass painted tops anyway! Look at all the pictures, I have more I can email. I will answer all questions as best possible, as soon as possible. As most 32 year old cars that sit, it does have a few drips from sitting. I only use Castrol Syntec 10W40 full synthetic oil in the L-82 motor. It was just changed a week ago with a fresh K+N oil filter. Due at close of auction is a $1,000 deposit and balance paid in full before releasing car and clear Ohio title. Thanks for looking ! *** 5-14-2011 A lot of people are inquiring about a "Buy It Now" price, so I decided to add one. That amount is considerably less than I have in the car. I just found my original buyers aggreement from 2003 where I paid $15,000.00 for the car. If someone decides to do the "Buy It Now" I will also include the various books, manuals, GM parts book, and custom fit car cover. As an added " bonus, I will also include the two soft "convertible top" style tops I have. Those big, heavy glass panels are risky to try to get into the rear storage area. In the event I left the glass tops home, I always put the soft tops in the back "just in case it rained" while we were out. Those two pieces alone are very rare, scarce items. Again, Good Luck, there are a lot of watchers! Jim
