Vehicle Detail

* I am selling this car for my Father, I live in Washington State, the Car is located in San Diego, Ca. at my Dad's house. This is an Original, unmolested 1955 MG TF 1500, that has never been restored. Car # HDP46/ 7327, Engine # XPEG / 1071 The engine and Chassis #'s do match. The mileage reads 20410. We are not sure if that means 120,410 or 20,410. The car has spent most of it's life sitting and from a lot of things I have seen on the car it could possibly be a 20,000 mile car. But we have no way to prove that. My Father bought the car in San Diego around six years ago as a non-running barn find. At that point in had sat in a garage in east San Diego for at least 25 years. Originally Cream over Red, it was repainted blue 30 plus years ago. It still has it's original red interior. We shipped the car up to me in Washington with the intent to completely restore the car. But after spending some time looking it over I convinced Dad to leave the car alone and just get everything working again and enjoy it as it is. The car has a lovely feel and patina that only a unrestored cars seem to have. And while it's not perfect cosmetically it's certainly respectable and it has been entered in a few British car shows. The body is very straight and rust free. The paint is old with many minor flaws. It was probably a cheap paint job in the day. But it still shins and is a pleasant color and goes with the Red interior. The wood frame work certainly appears to be dry, solid and rot free. The doors close with a nice light "thunk" and do not sag. The frame is rust free and straight. There is no evidence of accident damage on the car. The Interior is all original. The bright red has faded into a browny red. The seats are well worn, with the drivers seat being the worst. with most of the damage at the top. We were always wanted to try to find someone to sympathetically restore them as I hate the thought of getting rid of them. My solution was to slide a coffee sack over the back of the drivers seat ( Dad loves coffee). All the interior panels are in great shape. The carpet is black and frayed and worn in places. The shifter boot is torn. The dash is in very nice shape with all the gauges and switches in nice shape and all working. Still has the under dash felt covered liner in place. Everything works, gauges, dash lights, driving lights etc. But the low fuel light is always on and the temp gauge reads low (even though it was rebuilt). The only dash modification is that someone installed an aftermarket temp. gauge down in the front wall of the drivers side dash pocket. It was done a long time ago and we just left it there. The car has an "Arnolt " model # HR-350 heater with fan. It is not hooked up at this time. Also installed a new Steering wheel and tonneau cover. The chrome again is all original and in nice shape. There is a small dent in the grill on the surround and one slat. Mechanically the car runs and drives great. We never took the engine apart or out of the car. The oil pressure is 45 psi cold, 40 psi hot at speed and 20 psi hot at idle. I did the following work on the engine after we got the car. Flushed the block and cooling system. Had the radiator :rodded out and cleaned. New: water pump, Coolant hoses, freeze plugs , Generator, regulator, ( converted the car to negative ground ) tach. drive, belt , Spin -on oil filter conversion (original set up included), S.U.fuel pump (electronic version), Engine and trans mounts, Rebuilt the carbs including new throttle shafts and air filters. All the tune up stuff and fluids were done at this time too. Rear seal on the transmission. Chassis wise we blasted and repainted the wire wheels. Installed 4 new Vredistein 165HR15 tires. Took apart the front suspension cleaned and painted everything. King Pins were fine, just installed new seals and bushings. New rear springs and bushes. The Brakes were taken apart, cleaned repainted. New; brake shoes , wheel cylinders and brake flex lines on all four wheels. Had the Master cylinder rebuilt. New front wheel bearings and front and rear hub seals. Basically everything it needed to be a great , reliable driver. The car also has some neat period accessories that were on the car when we got it. The shifter is aluminum with the MG written on it. The headlights are nice old Lucas PL units. The drivers side mirror fits neatly bolts into the side of the windshield frame.( It has to come out to fold the windshield flat). The engine has a aluminum valve cover and side cover. The top frame is there , but no top. The side curtains have there original covers on them and are all there. We never drive it in the rain. Jack and handles are still there. What we have is a great old car that is unpretentious and special. It drives great and can be enjoyed as it is. Please contact me with any questions you may have about the car.
