Vehicle Detail

1956 Mercedes Adenauer 300c with 98K original miles and perfect original body structure: Arrow-straight body and excellent factory-original undercarriage - every untouched bolt thread sharp, every original nut easy to remove. Interior wood nice, exterior chrome excellent. In dry storage and not driven since 1973 (please note the 1973 registration tags). The longterm owner, a successful career Mercedes and Porsche parts supplier and technician since the early 1950's, loved this particular Mercedes above all his others. During his late-1960's summer vacations, he used to drive the Adenauer to Mexico, and he still marvels at its high-speed cruising abilities during those trips. In 1973, he embarked on an extensive restoration of his favor car: He pulled the engine and transmission, and he had the transmission completely rebuilt. He had the wood refinished, and he had all the chrome redone. Then he traded two rough but complete cars, a1956 Porsche 356a Speedster and a 1959 Porsche 356a Cabriolet D, to the best painter he knew (whose work had recently won at Pebble Beach) to do the body and paint work (hence the amazingly straight body you see today). The paint work was excellent, the chrome all new, wood refinished, transmission rebuilt, and then the car sat untouched and unfinished for 37 years, until last month. The owner, now in poor health, sold me the car along with all his accumulated parts, the new chrome pieces still rapped individually in paper. We installed the chrome and we placed the original engine and newly rebuilt original transmission back into the car. I have taken pictures of everything that is included. Please note the brand-new OEM 300C clutch and pressure plate that comes along with the car. Any missing pieces are likely still at the longterm owner's house somewhere, amongst his vast store of old-stock OEM Mercedes and Porsche parts. He lives in the Soquel Hills near Santa Cruz, CA, and I am happy to put whoever buys the car in contact with him to gather any remaining pieces. He is an expert on early Mercedes in general, and Adenauer models in particular, so both the information and the new old-stock parts he can provide are quite valuable. The Adenauer offered here has not been started or driven in 38 years, and I have no information on the condition of the engine, but again, the transmission is new with zero miles on it. The floors and undercarriage of this car are in excellent, near rust-free condition, as you can see. The lacquer paint is 38 years old, and some small rust areas have crept in around the edges. All in all, this is an excellent candidate for a top-end restoration. And it deserves it. Thanks for the interest! Analogous to today's S-Class, the Type 300 cars were elegant, powerful, exclusive, and expensive. The 300, 300b, 300c (chassis code 186), and successor 300d (chassis code 189) models were touring cars, often referred to asAdenauers after Konrad Adenauer, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. In office from 1949 to 1963, he employed six custom convertible, hardtop, and landaulet versions during his tenure. These large saloons and four-door cabriolets featured many luxury features. Options such as Becker radio, VHF mobile telephone, and dictation machine were geared to the business man and politician. Among the custom features in Chancellor Adenauer's "parade cars" were writing desks, sirens, curtains, dividing partitions, sunroofs, and half-roof landaulet configurations.
