Vehicle Detail

1971 Mercedes-Benz Coupe 280 SE 3.5 (U.S. Version) This Coupe has been stored in my warehouse for the past 2 years (under car cover), driving it only a dozen times around town and only on sunny days. Before I bought this car it had been in a private collection for seven years in Las Vegas, prior to that it lived in Southern California. It is powered by the powerful 3.5 liter overhead cam V8 with fuel injection. This car has power windows, power steering, 4 wheel power brake, a power sunroof, the factory Becker AM/FM stereo with front and rear speakers and fader control. This car is nearly absolutely rust free in large part due to the desert climate where it had been stored, keeping it from serious rust issues, the heat and lack of use has marked the paint (3 spots that need to be touched up. 1 on hood and 2 on the passenger side. They can barely be seen in the photos), and the varnish on the (window)wood requires refinishing. If you are in the market to cosmetically restore, you could do no better than this one. These pictures were taken 4-16-11. As the pictures show it is very clean, inspected and ready for long or short drives. I have a file full of paperwork for the buyer of this vehicle, which includes the owner info. from 20 years ago (who put over 20k into this car), repairs and brief history to date. When I bought this car the previous owner listed his recent repairs - Beru wire set, Bosch spark plugs (never use Platinum in these cars), ignition rotor, distributor cap, Henst oil filter, Castrol 20/50 oil, 2 OEM valve cover gaskets and a German high pressure fuel injection hose. Previous buyer said when they had the valve covers off, inside the engine looked really super, Cams have no wear to speak of and not dirty at all. Pictures are in file. When I got the car I took it to the Austin Autohaus to have looked over, which I was told is one of the best places for vintage MB repairs and work. I asked them to go thru the vehicle and had them fix anything that needed repair. On 8-13-09 the only things needed were an exhaust flange, caliper line replace, gear box seal kit, transmission seal and o ring, motor mount, cleaned and lubed windows and fixed a manifold leak by replacing seals for a total of $2,530.06 (invoice in file). I also had 5 new tires (spare) installed. Even after storing it over the winter the car starts on the first try, has no leaks and runs smoothly. I am amazed at how easy and smooth this car drives at 65 Plus. The exterior color is a silver (the pictures were taken at sundown and some of the pics have a gold tent). This is an extremely original car with a Classy grey and black combo. I can't drive it with out someone offering a smile or a big thumbs up. I have a clear title in hand ready for the lucky buyer. Bidders with negative feedback email me before bidding. DON'T BID IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY or if you can't get it within 5 days of the close of the sale. Serious inquiries only. Of course, Collector Car Sold AS-IS.
